Veles organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2021, taking into account the annual theme.

16 September
“Health benefits of cycling & walking for children”
Educational and interactive workshop in the kindergarten "Dimche Mirchev", Veles with senior and veteran cyclists.
Discussion Topic: “Health benefits of cycling & walking for children”.
Veterans will talk about the health benefits of cycling and walking in front the children. It can prevent children obesity and help kids gain stamina. It is a great cardiovascular exercise. It also helps to alleviate stress, which can prevent psychological health problems in children. Helps strengthening the muscles, stronger bones and better co-ordination. Cycling also improves motor skills and helps with balance.
At the end, learn from seniors and veterans through demonstrations and discussions on bicycle maintenance essentials. The second part of the activity is bicycle-driving practice in the front yard of the kindergarten, while art exhibition on the same topic will be exhibited all around the yard. The kindergarten children themselves make the art.

"Road safety risks in young people”
Educational workshop for young people presented by police officers, Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia, Sector Veles.
Discussion Topic: "Road safety risks in young people”
Young people are threatened by death and disease resulting from risky road behavior. Guidelines recommend injury prevention and harm minimization counselling; however, little is known about road risks in youth attending primary care.
The safety educational workshop teaches young people road safety skills and helps them become safe and independent road users (as cyclists, as pedestrians and as passengers).

Walking & Cycling to Inspire Healthy Lifestyle
Cycling route from Veles to Mladost Lake (around 10 kilometers).
Improved conditions for cyclists and pedestrians at the Mladost Lake:
- Electric bicycles;
- SMART parking - 23 parking places and a charger for electric vehicles Class B +;
- Pedestrian walkway – 759 m;
- Reconstructed and marked bicycle paths - 17.5 km;
- Reconstructed road to the Chateau Sopot winery;
- Inclusive children's playground “The Park of Hearts” - This park is extremely unique. There are no other inclusive parks in this region;
- Bicycles parking lots on Mladost Lake.

Pumptrack – Fun Riding for All Ages in the city park.
This is the second project in our country for pumptrack built.
A loop, rollers, berms, bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller blades, dirt, concrete, asphalt, fiberglass, old, young. A pumptrack is many things, but people love them because they are fun.

Safe Roads - Safe Traffic - Safe Pedestrians
Road traffic signs and rules are essential to ensure road safety and safe and efficient traffic movement.
Activities throughout the year, which are related to traffic safety and security:
- An inclusive children playground constructed;
- Facilitated access for disabled persons to locations along Lake Mladost (access ramp in Lake Mladost waters for disabled persons);
- Pump Track, City Park, Veles;
- Smart parking set out, using digital management system of Lake Mladost;
- Installed charger for electric vehicles CLASS B +;
- Extended and marked bicycle paths on Lake Mladost, 17.5 km;
- Renovated road to Chateau Sopot winery, 600m;
- Improved pedestrian path on Lake Mladost, 1580m;
- Purchased 20 smart bicycles for rental on Lake Mladost;
- Installation of three new parking lots for bicycles on Lake Mladost;
- Built street on Lake Mladost, 180m;
- Improvement of the infrastructure in the city (new and renovated existing pedestrian safety post bollards installed, mounting and dismantling of safety traffic cones, renovated horizontal and vertical signalization to improve traffic conditions and safety, marked new and remarked existing crosswalks, pavements adapted for disabled persons - lowered pavements);
- Asphalting and concreting part of the streets in the central city area and in the settlements on the territory of the Municipality of Veles;
- Improved pedestrian path in City Park, 230m;
- Two picnic shelters placed on Vrsnik hill and Sveti Ilija hill;
- Elevator installed in a school building;
- Continuous financing by the Municipality of Veles for sustainability of vehicle for disabled persons;
- New traffic solutions introduced.

"Keep the children healthy & happy"
Being active in childhood means children are more likely to be active later in life and it is an important part of developing a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
By donation of bicycles and sports equipment to some of the municipal schools and kindergarten, we are raising children's awareness of a healthy lifestyle.
22 September
Final event - Car Free Day - the road around the primary school "Vasil Glavinov" will be closed to motor vehicle traffic and will be open up for safe walking & cycling. Encouraging all schools and organizations to hold events and activities promoting Car Free Day.
All the activities, throughout the mobility week will be organized according the official measures and protocols provided by the Government for Covid-19 protection. Due to it, some of the planned activities may not be realized.

Car-free day Car-free day

Veles carries out a Car-Free Day 2021 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Final event - Car Free Day - mean that the road around a school and park is closed to motor vehicle traffic and opened up for safe walking & cycling.
Encouraging all schools and organizations to hold events and activities promoting Car Free Day.
