Platanias Municipality organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2021, taking into account the annual theme.

17 September
ECO & SAFE BIKE ROUTE-9:00 am to 12:00p.m.
The Municipality of Platanias organize the “Ecological & Safe Cycling Route” in order to raise awareness on road safety and sustainable mobility in the framework of the European program CIVITAS SUMP-PLUS.
Specifically, the Cycling Route is addressed to the students of the 5th & 6th grade, of the neighboring schools of the Municipality of Platanias, such as Voukolion, Tavroniti and Kolimbari with the participation of their parents and teachers.
Young cyclists will be accompanied by local Cycling Associations trainers, Road Traffic Police and Red Cross Rescuers, to follow a route through the scenic Platanias countryside and finished at the Memorial Park dedicated to the Memory of the Victims of Road Accidents.
The children will be awarded for their participation, with a special souvenir with logos of the SUMP-PLUS European project and the Municipality, the mascot of European Mobility Week, and a moto “Move Sustainably. Stay Healthy.”.
The vision of the Municipality of Platanias is to strengthen the capacity of the younger generations to move safely and to use sustainable means of transport

WORKSHOP «Nutritional and Physical Health in the 21st century» -18:00p.m-21:00p.m
The workshop will take place at Ioulianos Tsirakis Foundation-Cultural Center, in Skinne, in the framework of the European Mobility Week and the "3rd Mousouron Road Running Race", which will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021 with the Half Marathon and the 10,000 m and 5,000 m. The workshop is addressed to the general public in order to raise awareness on nutritional and physical issues and to strengthen the capacity of the citizens to move sustainably and stay healthy.

«3rd MOUSOURON ROAD RUNNING RACE» 9:00 am to 14:00p.m
The Municipality of Platanias and the Region of Crete, in collaboration with the Association of Health Runners of Chania and the support of the Hellenic Police and the Red Cross, are co-organising for the 3rd year the Mousouron Road Running Race, The routes will pass through a large number of Local Communities of special natural beauty. All Local Councils and Associations of the area participate in the event. More specifically, the routes are the following: 1st race, 21 Kilometers, 2nd race, 10 km, 3rd race, 4 km. During the race, all foreseen measures against COVID 19, according to the current health protocol, will be taken.

OPEN AIR CO-DESIGNED LAB on "Sustainable Mobility and Accessibility" for residents and visitors of the Platanias Municipality -18:00p.m-21:00p.m
The Municipality of Platanias and the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Laboratory of the Technical University of Crete, are organising an Open-air co-design Lab on sustainable mobility and accessibility for residents and visitors of the Municipality, on 20 and 22 September 2021, at the Central Square of Platanias. The aim of the Lab is to inform and raise awareness amongst residents and visitors about the Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning that is taking place in the Municipality of Platanias and to engage them in a participatory approach for shaping the SUMP vision and co-designing solutions that promote sustainable and active mobility, enhance road safety and improve the quality of life in Platanias for all!
Employing tailored designed interactive material, the Open Laboratory will give the opportunity to all of citizens:
• To envision the city they want to live, work, create and enjoy in the future
• To be informed about the benefits of alternative modes of transport, such as cycling, car-pooling, bus and walking.
• To discuss proposals for a safer, more accessible and friendly city, with the help of an interactive map
• To record their experience and opinions about traveling in the city, especially by bus, through an online questionnaire
• To calculate the environmental footprint of their daily commuting and the savings they could have, by choosing a more sustainable transport mode, through an online application (mobile app).
