Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2022, taking into account the annual theme.

16 September
European Mobility Week themed photo shooting board was set up at the airport and the importance of the week was promoted to the all arriving passengers.
At the concert of famous Turkish Singer Haluk Levent, the presenter gave a speech for the citizens on the occasion of the European Mobility Week.
Before the concert, a “Body Music” event was held with the citizens, accompanied by a theater actor.
During the Sister Cities opening ceremony, there was a photo shoot for the European Mobility Week.
A green and clean driving event was organized between the Mayors, Consuls, and representatives of the Sister Cities and a Tramway ride between Gar - Adliye Station is realized with their participation. Afterdwards, a "Seedling Planting Certificate" was given to the all participants.
Banners and posters related to the European Mobility Week were hung on public transport vehicles.
A booth was set up for the European Mobility Week in Festival Park.
At the booth, the information of the participants for the bicycle draw was collected, and the winners were awarded with bicycle-t-shirt-hat gifts after the drawing of lots finished at the end of the day.
At the booth, traffic awareness and European Mobility Week themed coloring books were presented to citizens throughout the day.
During the day, free transportation service from the city center to the Festival Park area is provided by 100% electrical buses.

Within the scope of attacting university students to public transportation, it was announced on social media that 22 rides are free through “Genç Gaziantep” (Young Gaziantep) mobile application.

Free transfers between modes of transport were made throughout the day for all public transportation systems throughout Gaziantep.
A delivery event was held with an "Electric Cargo Vehicle" for environmentally friendly and sustainable logistics in cooperation with a local cargo company.
In 5 schools, special trainings were provided for the European Mobility Week to raise the awareness level of the students. European Mobility Week themed t-shirts, stickers and reflective vests were distributed to these students. In addition, bicycles were presented as a gift to high school students.
20 September
A bicycle ride event was held towards the Gaziray - Mücahitler Station with the participation of the personnel of the Transportation Department for raising public awareness on European Mobility Week.
Bicycle parking stations have been established in the parking areas in order to ensure integration at the stops of the Gaziray Suburban Line.
In order to ensure the continuity and integration between the systems and to protect the urban aesthetics, bicycle path laying has been completed along the Gaziray Suburban Line, whose constuction was completed in 2022 and 5 km of which was taken underground.
At the end of the Bicycle Ride event, a suburban transfer was made at Gaziray - Mücahitler Station.
In order to make our city a bicycle-friendly city, to increase the rate of bicycle usage and to encourage citizens, the opportunity to get on public transportation (tram, bus) with a foldable bicycle at any time of the day was provided by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality with the UKOME (Transportation Board) Decision.
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality has launched the project that will expand the "Gaziantep Card" feature, which is used in public transportation in the city, to all cards of banks with contactless features, credit cards, prepaid cards or debit cards, with the "Every Card is Gaziantep Card" project, which will be a first in Turkey.

The ever-increasing population and automobile ownership restrict the living spaces of individuals in cities. For this reason, the importance of “pedestrianized areas” that are completely reserved for individuals in cities is becoming more and more noticeable with each passing day. The "Thousand Steps with Young People" event was organized at this point in order to raise awareness about the transformation of Gaziantep University Square, which was open to vehicular traffic until 2022, then transferred into a pedestrianized area for this reason.
“Pedestrian Stations” have been permanently established for the comfort and safety of citizens in pedestrianized areas.
Everyone who participated and completed the "Thousand Steps with Youth" event was awarded a "Seedling Planting Certificate".
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality held the “Climate Action Plan” meeting for the Organized Industrial Zone in order to be a sustainable and green city. By doing this, it was emphasized how important the steps to be taken by industrial organizations are.
22 September
The “Car-Free Day” event was organized in order to diversify the mobility in transportation and to encourage the citizens to alternative, green and sustainable transportation modes.
Located in the city center of Gaziantep, on the axis of Kamil Ocak – Mithat Enç, Nail Bilen, and Ömer Asım Aksoy Avenues, approximately 2.5 km of road is closed to traffic, and micro-mobility rides such as bicycles, scooters, and pedestrian walking activities were held with the participation of the Governor, Mayor, NGO's, trade associations and citizens of the city.
Sports activities such as tennis and miniature football were organized on the same avenue axis.
A total of 4 bicycles were presented as gifts, to 3 people using public transportation the most and 1 person using GaziBis (Bicycle Borrowing System) the most during 2022.
Special hats, t-shirts and reflective vests for the European Mobility Week were distributed to the participants..
The closing event of the week is held with the participation of the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor (President of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey), the Deputy Governor, the General Secretary of the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, the Deputy Mayors, the Deputy General Secretaries, the Heads of Departments and the citizens in the Oyuncakistan Park. Speeches on the importance of the week were delivered by the notable people of the city.

In the current situation, a bicycle road network of 38.6 km length has been completed. A total of 150 km of the bicycle road network has been determined within the framework of the Gaziantep Transportation Master Plan (GUAP).
The free-floating bike sharing system is actively working with a total of 108 bikes at 7 stations.
Activities are ongoing to establish public bicycle repair stations at bicycle parking stations.
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality was declared a Green City in London in 2021, working in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to include the city in a comprehensive investment program for becoming green. Within the framework of the “Green City Action Plan”, the roadmap of the investment plan, which examines how to provide climate-resilient basic services, including solid waste, water, wastewater, street lighting, energy supply, and transportation, has begun to be developed.
It is planned to build bicycle parking stations to increase the usage of bicycles and promote sustainable transportation.
An area of 138.468 m2 was fully pedestrianized for the use of pedestrians. Plans and projects have been developed to enhance the aforesaid areas.
Pedestrian overpasses have been established in order to provide pedestrian and traffic safety on axes where traffic flow is heavy and fast. For all other pedestrian crossings, the horizontal and vertical markings are checked on a regular basis to ensure sustainability.
Demand analyzes are performed regularly in public transportation systems, and required infrastructure works are maintained. In addition, a total of 999 rubber-wheeled vehicles and 53 rail systems operate throughout the city. There are 138 diesel vehicles and 145 CNG vehicles in our rubber-wheeled fleet within Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality. Furthermore, there are 53 electric trams in our rail system.
In addition to the current 22 km tram line established in order to increase sustainability and promote green transportation in Gaziantep, the 25 km long Gaziray (Gazirail) Suburban Line has been completed. Test drives of this line are pending.
The implementation project concerning the 10.5 km long metro line has been finished so as to boost the city's rail network.
The “Railroad Station Main Transfer Center” was built to realize the integration of all transportation systems in the city center.
Test drives of 100% electric buses, which are among the main components of green transportation and minimize carbon emissions, continue.
Technologies such as audio and visual warnings, disabled ramps, applications, and online travel planning are being utilized to improve technologies in public transportation.
Speed decreasing practices are promoted across the city, particularly in areas such as social structures, schools, mosques as well as their surroundings.
Activities and works regarding the Car Park Master Plan are being conducted for situations such as outdoor parking, roadside irregular parking, etc.
“Pedal For Your Future” bicycle awareness project was launched. In this regard, information presentations were offered to the target group of 30,000 students and NGOs, and various activities were organized to promote the use of the bicycle.
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality supported the “100% Life in Traffic Project”, implemented with the collaboration of Middle East Technical University and Egis, by holding meetings and field trips. Within the scope of this project, possible problems causing accidents were determined by identifying accident hotspots in certain provinces of Türkiye and examining the 5 locations with the highest number of accidents on site.
A presentation was made to raise the traffic awareness of primary school students and a total of 20,000 coloring books were distributed within the framework of the “Traffic Awareness Joy of Living” project undertaken by the Department of Transportation.
As per the Social Awareness Cooperation Agreement concluded between Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and Gaziantep University on 08.03.2017, a Traffic Awareness Project with the theme of “Respect, Safety, and Tolerance in Traffic” was carried out.
The Department of Transportation under the body of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality was deemed worthy of the "Bicycle-Friendly Employer Certificate" (GOLD LEVEL).
“Young Gaziantep Mobile Application” offers a special privilege to the youth in Gaziantep. The number of downloads and uses of this application has reached 68,200. It is downloaded by an average of 250 young people every day. Our young people between the ages of 15-26 can benefit from discounts of up to 50% from hundreds of companies that we have concluded an agreement through this application. Moreover, all our young people who download the application and register receive a free Internet (2+2 4 GB). Each month, 22 boarding passes are loaded on the transportation cards of all students studying at Gaziantep Universities and applying. Up until now, a total of 43,956 students have benefited from 22 boarding passes. One of the most significant advantages of our application is to enable students to participate in the activities organized by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality by seeing them through the application. Those who participate are given diamond points. Diamond points accumulate on a monthly basis, thereby allowing the user to win gifts such as computers, tablets, smart watches, wireless headphones, and bicycles.
“E-Bike Application” was put into application on August 1 in order to increase the use of bicycles in Gaziantep. Our users who download the application can use it comfortably thanks to its easy interface and ease of use. The application continues to run in the background while cycling, thus preventing interruptions in the tour. In this application, which has an average speed of 15 / 20 Km, the limit has been determined as 30 / 35 for athletes. Our application can be used within the borders of Gaziantep province without any restriction regarding residence and age. Bicycles are gifted to the first 3 young people who use our application and make the most KM. Furthermore, it also operates by being integrated with the Young Gaziantep Mobile Application. Each month, the top 10 members are awarded diamond points in the Young Gaziantep Mobile Application.
Plans and projects are sustained to increase the existing green roads and expand the green bands.
Parking areas continue to be included in the zoning plans for the purpose of traffic calming and establishing access controls.
While electric bus drives are ongoing for a green and sustainable Gaziantep, a rail system network is being developed in the city.
As a part of GUAP 2015, cargo distribution and storage projects have been devised, and “electric cargo vehicles” have started to serve for intra-city cargo deliveries in our city. Moreover, infrastructure works for load transfer centers are pending.
The “Gaziray Suburban Line” project was carried out in order to develop workplace travel plans and to improve the travel load of the city's organized industrial zone.
Incentive programs for employers are being implemented in the Organized Industrial Zone within the scope of clean and green transportation.

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality proceeds to provide awareness trainings by experts for primary and secondary school children within the scope of joint studies with the Ministry of National Education of Turkey.

Pedestrian and bicycle priority projects are being prepared for sustainable transportation, which is one of our Transportation Master Plan targets. Pedestrian potential and bicycle use in the city are important indicators. For this reason, pedestrians and cyclists are counted with the assistance of cameras and the data is analyzed.
123 Accessible Pedestrian Buttons have been installed at 12 signalized intersections in our city. Safe and easy crossings at intersections are provided for our citizens with visual impairments through Braille alphabet and also for people with hearing impairments and other pedestrians through reliefs and audible warnings showing the intersection geometry on the buttons. By doing this, the effort continues for a more accessible Gaziantep without restricting the mobility of disadvantaged groups who are a part of our society.

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality has electric charging stations installed in its service buildings for electric vehicle fleets.
In addition to the existing 22 km tram line, to increase mobility and support green transportation in our city, the 25 km Gaziray Suburban Line connecting the Small Industrial Zone, the city center and our Organized Industrial Zone will be put into service with 16 stations. Personnel shuttle vehicles used by the citizens working in the Organized Industrial Zone to go to work will be removed they will be
transported by the shuttles at Gaziray stations. Thus, traffic load and air pollution will be reduced. 5 km of 25 km, passing through the central business area, was taken underground, keeping the city's texture intact, and the principle of sustainability is also observed as a result. Bicycle path, pedestrian path and green areas have been prioritized on the said closed section. The line will be put into service with 8 sets of 32 wagons.
In order to develop the city's rail system network, the Gar-Düztepe-Hastane Metro Line, whose final project has been approved by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, consisting of approximately 10.5 km and 9 stations, will start from the İstasyon Square in the city center and will reach to the City Hospital, which is the largest hospital in the region. This line will also include the Driverless Metro system.

Car-free day Car-free day

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality carries out a Car-Free Day 2022 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
CAR FREE DAY: Kamil Ocak – Nail Bilen – Mithat Enç Streets (comprising approximately 2,5 km) located in Gaziantep city center will be closed to traffic on September 22 as part of the “Car Free Day”. In addition to micro mobility drive vehicles such as bicycles and scooters, sports activities such as tennis, miniature football etc. were also organized.
