Heraklion (HΡΑΚΛΕΙΟ) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2022, taking into account the annual theme.

16 September
starting from today until the 22nd of September all cyclists can have a free check-up of their bikes provided by a local bike shop in the central square of the city!
17 September
Road safety QUIZ and road safety simulators with instructors in Georgiadis Park in the city center. From 11.30 until 19.30, Stefanakis driving schools provide children and their parents the opportunity to learn, have fun and raise awareness regarding the importance of life protection on the road through interactive quizzes.
At the same time, they will educate & increase awareness for all with the use of car simulators regarding the importance of the seat belt.
Heraklion is a city well-known for its treasure-hunt games for adults! Today at 17.00 we organize the FIRST treasure-hunt activity for children aged 6 y.o. and older with the theme of mobility and road safety.
A scavenger hunt for kids who will have fun with target games, memory games, etc. and will be asked to solve sustainable mobility and road safety puzzles.
After the game... at around 19.30 there is an Open YOGA Class for all ages... in the park to relax and reconnect to our body and spirit! People are asked to bring their own yoga mat and get comfortable!
At 21.00 musicians will arrive to celebrate Better Connections!!
18 September
Sundays are for learning and having fun! At 12.00 there will be decoupage workshop for children! Little artists will learn how to use and create through decoupage techniques. They will create pencil cases and other objects from disposable materials. Their inspiration will be the "bicycle"!
At 13.00 we organize a special pottery workshop for adults! Mrs. Manja Radovic will shows us how to create a ceramic boat with a crackle paste of two ingredients and will learn how to create various decorative elements to decorate it.
At 16.30 we organize a first aid seminar aiming to highlight the importance of first aid knowledge to adults and children, Red Cross trainers will conduct a First Aid demonstration for citizens who are interested in learning and will provide instructions on how to deal with emergencies such as car, motorcycle or bicycle accidents.
At 18.00 we start our bike ride around the city center asking for BETTER CONNECTIONS!
We get our EMW T-shirt, we ride around our city and at the finish, someone will be the lucky one who will win a bike !! The route includes the following landmarks: LOGIA - 25th August Street - 18 English Square - Sophocles Venizelou Str. - Archiepiskopou Makariou Str. - Chanioporta - Kalokairinou Str. - Agios Minas Square- Kyr. Loukareos Str.- Evans - Charilaou Trikoupi Str.- and back to the city centre.
After the end of the bike ride, there will be a music and dance event and there will be a draw for the 2 bikes.
19 September
Monday starts with school activities. The local Traffic Police department visits two schools (28th primary school and 57th primary school) to interact and play with kids its unique game called 'Mr KOK in Survivor' (KOK stands for the local traffic code initial letters). Kids learn the basic rules of behavior when walking and driving. Students will also get familiar with the vehicles of the Traffic Police, the importance of helmets and seat belts, the use of glasses simulating the impact of alcohol driving, etc.
20 September
The games continue to more schools. Now its the turn of the 48th primary school in Heraklion to play and interact with the Local Traffic Police department.
21 September
The municipality paints new zebra crossings around key school units. Leaflets with the theme of Better connections are distributed to students and citizens around the city.
22 September
The first EVER cycling bus to school in Heraklion will take place on the 22nd of September! Students of the 19th primary school are gathered in the nearby park (Mikras Asias Park) and CYCLE TO SCHOOL accompanied by parents and traffic police officers! The route is predefined and passes by parks, open spaces, key road junctions and other landmark uses. Children will get familiar with safe bicycle driving and will start thinking of different ways to go to school daily. After they reach their school (19th primary school) the Local Traffic Police Department will introduce them to its actions and interactive games (Mr KOK in Survivor etc.).
