SLOW CITY GAME Spain

16 - 22 September 2025

Slow City Game is a cooperative board game that helps children and teenagers explore road safety and sustainable mobility in a fun, engaging way.

Created by students from the Faculty of Education at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) during an Erasmus+ exchange with young people in Slovenia, the game has since been adopted and adapted by P(A)T as an educational tool in schools and youth centres across multiple cities.

Players take on the roles of pedestrians or drivers, navigating real-life challenges: settling conflicts, defending 30 km/h zones, and reimagining how our streets could be safer. Along the way, they build empathy, sharpen critical thinking, and learn the power of teamwork.

Guided by a road safety education expert, the game sparks reflection on public space, pedestrian rights, and our shared responsibility for safer mobility. Its core messages are simple but powerful: “Cities slow down to protect life” and “Mobility is for everyone.”

In line with the 2025 theme, the project empowers young people to act as active citizens, challenging urban speed limits from a child’s perspective.

Slow City Game will be rolled out during European Mobility Week in schools (on request) and is easy to replicate in a wide range of educational and community settings.
