Detailed description (English): U-MOB LIFE | European University Network for Sustainable Mobility project has just started, with a budget of 1,329,427 € and funded by European LIFE initiative.
NOVOTEC’s wide expertise developing sustainable mobility plans, the trajectory of the Universities of Rotterdam, Krakow and Bergamo and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona implementing mobility best practices, and the capabilities of Fundación Equipo Humano on training and communication fields, have enabled the choice of U-MOB project by the European Commission in the LIFE 2015 call.
For 5 years, U-MOB LIFE partners will work together to create a network to facilitate the exchange and transfer of knowledge on mobility best practices among European universities.
First U-MOB project is aimed at the mobility managers of European universities, with the purpose of developing this figure on campus, but with the end goal of reaching university communities across Europe, driving a change of mind that achieves a shift from unsustainable transport modes (car) to non-motorized transport (bicycle or displacement on foot) and public transport.
During the project, U-MOB consortium will engage key stakeholders related to mobility in Europe; not only universities, but public authorities, transport companies, social organizations, etc. as well.
Three European conferences on Sustainable Mobility at University Campuses will be held in Barcelona, Krakow and Bergamo in 2017, 2019 and 2021 respectively. The consortium is already working on the first one, which will take place at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in March 2017.
U-MOB partners are currently launching their first activities, which consist of:
- Collecting best practices on sustainable mobility at University campuses

Follow reducing CO2 emissions after LIFE
6. Foster the mainstreaming of sustainable mobility policies among public authorities and transport companies
Expected Outcomes: 3 European conferences on sustainable mobility at university campuses
A web platform for exchanging knowledge / expertise
A training course for university mobility managers
Awareness materials to provide support to university mobility managers
A tool for measuring CO2 emissions due to university mobility
