Detailed description (English): The Department of Mobility of the Government of Aragon wants Zaragoza to go on wheels. Specifically, about two, and if they can be driven by pedals, then better. Almost half of the 25.2 million euros that will reach the community from European funds will be used to improve infrastructure for bicycle transport in the Zaragoza metropolitan area. The construction of five interurban bike lanes is planned, which will benefit 11 localities. What's more, the commitment is also aimed at the workplace: these roads will connect with 19 industrial estates and eight new secure car parks will be set up.
The new interurban cycling network will extend for 54 kilometres, of which 33 are autonomously managed – the Government of Aragon will provide 9.5 million to cover it – and 10 correspond to the Zaragoza City Council, while 11 are already built. The routes Zaragoza-La Puebla de Alfindén, Zaragoza-Utebo-Casetas, Zaragoza-Cuarte-Cadrete-María de Huerva, Utebo-Garrapinillos-Plaza, and Pastriz-La Puebla de Alfindén-Villamayor de Gállego will thus be configured. These five cycle paths will be completed between April 2023 and June 2024.
12.4 million will be used to promote cycling with the creation of the Red de CicloVías Metropolitanas de Aragón; the expansion of the CicloRez that is already underway; and the extension of Bizia, the secure car park network.
