Detailed description (English): The main objective of the project is to take a step forward in raising awareness of sustainable mobility within our urban centres and their surroundings. In this case, to design and create a cargo bicycle to offer citizens the opportunity to try and introduce this type of bicycle into their lives, businesses and way of moving around.
Bicycles that, as their name suggests, can carry a wide variety of loads, from parcels to shopping, but which can also transport children and even adults. As these bicycles are very expensive and their size limits the possibility of storing them safely, they are largely unknown in our cycling culture. However, in other European countries they are widely used.
As a secondary objective and in line with the Bir-ziklatu project, the aim is to promote the philosophy of recovery and reuse of bicycles and their components. Thus, the creation of the cargo bike will be made with bicycles and components recovered by our association.
The last objective is to continue collaborating with the CIFP Don Bosco LHII in projects linked to sustainable mobility. In this new project we want to involve the students of Metal Structures, so that following the ETAZI methodology, they develop the necessary skills for their future using projects with real projection related to the bicycle and other non-polluting modes of transport.
Target group(s): The participation of pupils and teachers in this project is very positive as it opens the door to a real application of the methodological process that we have had in place at the school for several years and which is based on collaborative learning based on challenges. In this specific case, it is a real practice that greatly encourages students and also works on values as it is a project with a social purpose and with an important component of circular economy.
Objectives: The aim is to promote the philosophy of recovering and reusing bicycles and their components. Thus, the creation of the cargo bike was made with bicycles and components recovered by the Gurpil Artea Elkartea association.
An ECF study calculates that the CO2 emission of the bicycle: 5 gr. corresponds to the manufacture and maintenance of the bicycle. Therefore, recovering 800 bicycles a year would save 4000 grams of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Not to mention the destruction of the waste we are saving.
All this added to the CO2 emissions that would be reduced by using a cargo bike for last mile parcel delivery.
