Detailed description (English): Our school’s sustainable mobility action is titled “The Tour of Cyprus by Public Transport”. A group of students and educators will travel across major cities of the island using mainly buses. The initiative was inspired by the lack of modern transport options and the need to promote their use, as private cars are the dominant mode of travel in Cyprus. It also aims to emphasize that life on an island means short distances, making it essential to improve pedestrian infrastructure. Initially, a meeting will be organized with local stakeholders (community councils, parents, organized groups) to inform them about the action and gain their support. At the same time, an awareness campaign will be launched through the school’s social media to make the action known to the wider public. The group will start from Solomos Square (Nicosia) and head to other cities. At each stop, QR code keychains will be distributed to passers-by, linking to information about mobility in Cyprus and examples of sustainable travel practices. During the week, a workshop on “Sustainable mobility” will be held at school to provide useful information on the current situation in Cyprus, the measures that can be taken and good practices from abroad. The team's goal is to dispel the myths surrounding the use of public transport in Cyprus and to highlight the real obstacles to such an undertaking, in order to highlight the need for state interventions for solutions.
Detailed description (original language): Η δράση του σχολείου μας για τη βιώσιμη κινητικότητα ονομάζεται «Ο γύρος της Κύπρου με δημόσια συγκοινωνία». Ομάδα μαθητών και εκπαιδευτικών θα μετακινηθεί σε όλες τις πόλεις της Κύπρου χρησιμοποιώντας κυρίως λεωφορεία. Η ιδέα προέκυψε από την έλλειψη σύγχρονων μέσων συγκοινωνίας και την ανάγκη προώθησης της χρήσης τους, καθώς στην Κύπρο κυριαρχεί η χρήση του αυτοκινήτου. Παράλληλα, στόχος είναι να αναδειχθεί ότι η ζωή σε ένα νησί συνεπάγεται μικρές αποστάσεις, γεγονός που καθιστά αναγκαία την αναβάθμιση των υποδομών για πεζούς. Αρχικά, θα διοργανωθεί συνάντηση με τοπικούς φορείς (κοινοτικά συμβούλια, γονείς, οργανωμένα σύνολα), ώστε να ενημερωθούν για τη δράση και να τη στηρίξουν. Ταυτόχρονα θα ξεκινήσει εκστρατεία ενημέρωσης για τη δράση μέσα από τα κοινωνικά δίκτυα του σχολείου, ώστε να γίνει γνωστή στο ευρύ κοινό. Η ομάδα θα ξεκινήσει από την Πλατεία Σολωμού (Λευκωσία) και θα επισκεφτεί τις μεγαλύτερες πόλεις. Σε κάθε στάση, θα διανέμονται μπρελόκ με QR codes που παραπέμπουν σε πληροφορίες σχετικά με τις μετακινήσεις στην Κύπρο και καλές πρακτικές βιώσιμης κινητικότητας. Κατά τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας, θα πραγματοποιηθεί εργαστήριο στο σχολείο με θέμα «Βιώσιμη Κινητικότητα», ώστε να δοθούν χρήσιμες πληροφορίες για την υφιστάμενη κατάσταση στην Κύπρο, τα μέτρα που μπορούν να ληφθούν και καλές πρακτικές από το εξωτερικό.
