Detailed description (English): Konya.: Improvement of multi-modal commuting experience.
How can Konya’s multimodal commuting experience be improved?
EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, supports Konya to face this challenge
In Konya, Türkiye the number of registered vehicles has notably risen over the past decade. Private vehicles are used for about 24% of trips, while public transport accounts for 23% Only a tiny portion of trips (1.86%) involve transfers between different modes of transportation.
Because the city has expanded and people aren’t accustomed to changing from one mode of transport to another, more people are driving their own cars instead of using public transport. This has resulted in fewer trips where people use different forms of transport for a single journey. Multi-modal transportation should be encouraged in order to reduce the increasing use of private vehicles and to support sustainable mobility.
Multimodal transport should be promoted in order to reduce the use of private vehicles and to support sustainable mobility with personalised interventions using behavioral science and nudge techniques, and a transfer culture needs to be created in the city. It is aimed to ensure active mobility in last-mile journeys, increase the use of public transportation for long distances trips, and improve the integration between different transport modes.
Target group(s): Citizens, public authorities, mobility stakeholders
