Detailed description (English): The idea in one sentence: At selected, car-centred local supply centres in Berlin's commuter belt, we take people home by bike taxi free of charge - provided they leave their car at home.
A bike-taxi stands out in front of the entrance to a supermarket with a large car park - for a predominantly car-centric clientele. Our aim is to change this clientele's view of their own mobility. The best way to do this is for people to actually ride along, experience cycling in the back seat and shift their windscreen perspective from the centre lane to the bike lane. The journey is also used to talk about aspects of sustainable mobility. Although only a few of them will be real ‘car captives’, as they would have to leave their cars at the end of the day, the change of perspective is perfect when they do join in. In addition, the branch managers involved enter into a dialogue about alternative accessibility options.
Detailed description (original language): At the heart of the solution are free rides from retail outlets within the respective neighbourhood with a CityCruiser bike taxi. The operation will be organised in such a way as to ensure sustainable and long-term continuation. To achieve this, the following steps will be carried out:
Preliminary work: To begin with, a used rickshaw (CityCruiser model) is procured and given a project design. At the same time, information material on sustainable mobility is produced. A selection of locations is made based on defined criteria. Discussions are held with local supermarkets and retailers to secure partnerships and support.
Trial operation: The trial operation starts with regular rickshaw trips to supermarket car parks in the Berlin suburbs. Customers can be driven home free of charge, especially if they leave their car parked. Information about sustainable mobility is provided during the journey. The journeys are documented and feedback from participants is collected.
Evaluation: The collected data and feedback will be analysed to measure the success and acceptance of the project. Aspects such as CO 2 savings, user satisfaction and the willingness to leave the car behind are systematically analysed. Adjustments and optimisations are made based on the results.
Transfer to permanent operation: After successful evaluation, the project is transferred to permanent operation. More volunteers are recruited and the number of journeys is increased. Partnerships with retailers will be strengthened to ensure the long-term financing and maintenance of the vehicles.
Target group(s): Our target group are customers of retail centres with large parking lots with a tendency of being car-centric in their mobility behaviour. We mainly aim for elderly people with contrains in their physical abilities. Also the operators of the retail centres, are a target group, as we aim to get them involved in the concept.
