Detailed description (English): Throughout mobility week, our school will coordinate an activity meant to raise students' and community's awareness on the importance of using eco-friendly means of transport to school. The objective is to involve at least three coordinating teachers and 50 students who will cycle around the neighbourhood, sharing informative leaflets concerning the green alternatives of urban transport. Although our city is rather small, it is packed with cars and it is common that a family of three or four owns two cars. People don't usually share a ride with co-workers or schoolmates, they rather go to work/ school in their own car. Consequently, school vicinity face heavy traffic and congestion in the morning (before school begins) and around noon and 4 p.m., when students finish lessons.
Through our activity, we want to encourage parents from our school, as well as people in the community to try walking or cycling to school or, at least, to take turns in taking more students to school in the same car. Our school has also been involved in other projects encouraging cycling to school (e.g. Baia Mare School Bike - EU funded), we set up bike racks for our students to use when they come to school by bikes or scooters.
Because empathy and collaborative spirit are also traits our school encourages and supports, we will hand out, along with urban mobility leaflets, slips of paper and stickers with motivational messages, meant to put a smile on people's faces.
At the end of Mobility week we will organize a debate with participants to draw and disseminate the conclusions.
Target group(s): At least 50 students, 3 coordinating teachers, community members, parents and representatives of local authorities.
Objectives: To raise awareness of the importance of alternative ways for urban transport
To encourage students, teachers and members of local community to frequently use alternative transport in urban area
To explain the rules of using bikes on the bike tracks available in town
To explain safety rules of cycling and using scooters
