Detailed description (English): The public event “Urban Revitalization - Good Examples from Poland”, planned for the 21st of September 2024, is part of the initiative “Forum for Varna 2024 - the good examples”. During the public presentations, experts from different European countries will showcase good practices in the field of urban planning. The main focus is on sustainable urban mobility. Creating a basis for future partnerships between local аnd foreign institutions will ensure the sustainability of the results in the future.
A series of expert meetings and public discussions took place during last year’s edition - “Forum for Varna 2023”, with the participation of more than 50 experts, over 200 citizens and local authorities. During this year’s edition, lecturers from the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland and Burgas will present topics such as “Urban Revitalization”, “Sustainable Urban Mobility” and “Quality Utilization of Seacoast Areas”. Expected number of guests: 200 Pax.
A meeting with representatives of Varna Municipality and a bike tour through the historical city core will complement the public presentations in the open. The event is planned to be inaugurated by the director of the Polish Institute in Sofia, the regional governor and the city mayor.
Detailed description (original language): Събитието “Градска ревитализация - примери от Полша”, планирано за 21.09.24, е част от инициативата “Форум за Варна 2024 - добрите примери”. В рамките на публичните презентации ще бъдат представени добрите практики в сферата на градското планиране от различни европейски държави, с фокус върху устойчивата градска мобилност. Създаването на база за ползотворни бъдещи партньорства между местните и съответните чуждестранни институции е в основата на инициативата, осигурявайки устойчивост на постигнатите резултати.
В рамките на миналогодишното издание “Форум за Варна 2023” бяха проведени експертни срещи и публични дискусии, в които участваха над 50 експерти в съответните области от цяла България, както и над 200 граждани и представители на местната администрация. В тазгодишното издание на “Форум за Варна” са поканени експерти от Нидерландия, Дания, Полша и Бургас, които да споделят своя опит в теми, като: “Градска ревитализация“, “Устойчива градска мобилност” и “Качествено оползотворяване на морския бряг”.
В събитието “Градска ревитализация - примери от Полша” са включени среща с представители на Община Варна, велотур в историческото ядро на града и публични презентации на открито. Като почетни гости са поканени директорът на Полския институт в София, управител на област с админ. център Варна и кметът на Община Варна.
Target group(s): - Citizens and visitors of Varna; local communities - local businesses, cultural operators and informal groups;
- Civic organizations, who value the quality urban environment, the walkability in the city, as well as the preservation and utilization of the seacoast, and the cultural heritage;
- Experts with a background in urban planning, utilization of water resources and the seacoast, conservation and revitalization of cultural heritage;
- Local administration (Municipality of Varna) - the main driving force behind urban transformation, as well as members of the City Council - the institution, which approves the decisions concerning urban development.
- Local administration (Regional Administration) - an “ambassador” for the needs and ideas for the development of Varna at the national level;
- Representatives of the respective institutions at the national level, who set the framework (administrative, financial and legislative) for urban development in each domain.
Objectives: The current project reflects the team’s desire to provoke active citizens’ participation in the decision making for the city in the field of sustainable urban mobility. Sharing positive examples from various European cities will visualize potential future decisions for the urban planning of our city. It is important to present the urban planning processes by identifying successful practices which could be adopted by the local administration. To achieve quality results in urban planning, it is essential to set up an effective process involving the community as a natural actor in the life of the city. Collaboration, utilization of the collective experts’ and citizens’ potential as well as sharing ideas and efforts are the key to the creation of quality urban solutions.
The main goals of the initiative are:
- Exchanging professional experience between different European cities in the field of sustainable urban mobility, urban planning and involvement of citizens in the processes;
- Creating partnerships at the international level as a basis for setting up a network of cities with common views for future development;
- Support for the local administration in the search for urban solutions and increasing the trust of the citizens in the authorities;
- Involvement of the representatives of Varna City Council as an authority which determines the future development of the city;
- Raising the awareness and knowledge of the citizens and local administration regarding the value and beneficial influence of quality urban environment;
- Inclusion of new audiences in different formats in the field of sustainable urban mobility and urban development.
- Laying the foundation for creating new local communities, united around a quality urban mobility and environment.
