Detailed description (English): Nairobi City is the Capital City of Kenya which is known to produce world renowned athletes. But the city can't be categorized as a running friendly city. Because of lack of a proper running track that is accessible to the public.
Our government provides many resources for runners with one striking omission. The city lacks a running track that is accessible to the public. Tracks exist at few parks and institutions but they are rarely available for use by public. This creates challenges for runners since track workouts are an integral part of developing running skills.
The community would benefit from the creation of a public 3000m track. Youth and adult running groups, local gyms and fitness centers, and schools lacking on-campus tracks would utilize it. Individuals looking for a safe, accessible and convenient place to run or walk would also welcome it.
Kenya has a history of producing great runners. To maintain this level of excellence, expand the community’s ability to meet the needs of runners, and enhance Nairobi city’s status as a City that promotes a healthy lifestyle and fosters a culture of physical activity within its local community, which in turn helps in the fight against Non Communicable Diseases. We need the 3km long rubber padded public-use running track.
On 22nd September we will partner with other like minded organisation and government to organise a Free 5Km walk , tree planting & other fitness activities at Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary as we submit the petition to the county and national government.
