Detailed description (English): The BetterPoints app and platform deliver behaviour change and data for transport, health and climate. Users earn rewards for sustainable journeys which they can spend at local businesses or donate to charity. BetterPoints currently works with around 20 Local Authorities in the UK and TravelWise Week - the UK manifestation of European Mobility Week - is a major event in the campaigns calendar.
During the week, there are three prize draws every day - for walking/wheeling, cycling and using public transport - and messaging about the health, environmental, financial and social benefits of sustainable transport. At the end of the week there is a Top Prize draw for a European City Break, which consists of a Eurostar travel and accommodation voucher and some spending money.
In 2023, 8,000 participants recorded 162,000 sustainable trips during TravelWise Week - covering 446,000km and saving 33.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. This year we aim to improve on these numbers having has our most successful UK launch in Sheffield last October. Our most successful programme to date was the Bella Mossa campaign in Bologna.
Target group(s): Our primary target audiences are:
- people regularly driving short distances (most users have auto-tracking turned on, so we can identify these people easily)
- inactive citizens (people doing less than thirty minutes of moderate physical activity per week)
- employees and service users of large trip generators such as hospitals, universities and other strategic employers
Objectives: To achieve modal shift from single occupancy vehicles to active and sustainable transport. To reduce the overall number of car trips and total distance driven.
Partner: Modeshift, membership organisation
