Detailed description (English): Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality is expanding the “Safe School Routes” and “Street Transformation Rehearsal Practice” areas throughout the city. It has been implemented in order to provide a safe environment for our children, students to and from school and around the school, and efforts are being carried out to raise the awareness of citizens and make them a stakeholder of the project.
GMM recently worked in the Fikir Secondary School area of Yeditepe Neighborhood, Şahinbey District. It was transformed into pedestrian and child-friendly spaces with Street Transformation Practices. The project contributes greatly to making children and their families feel safer.
As a part of the car free day, streets 85102, 85103, 85117, 85119, 85121 and 85109 in Yeditepe Neighborhood were closed to vehicle traffic on September 22. Within the framework of the Safe School Road project, pedestrian crossings were organized around Fikir Secondary School, the speed limit was reduced to 30 km/h and a "Playground" was prepared, allowing our children to socialize safely in and around the school. This project also aims to give parents peace of mind.
Through this project, we revived forgotten street games and encouraged active transportation by creating safer cycling routes. We also aimed to instill environmental consciousness in our children. These initiatives promote physical activity and healthy growth in a safe environment.
