Detailed description (English): During European Mobility Week 2025, our primary school organised an active mobility challenge for pupils in grades 5–9.
From 16 to 18 September 2025, students were encouraged to travel to school by bicycle or scooter instead of using cars or buses. Each morning at 7:45 a.m., a Physical Education teacher welcomed participants at the school’s second entrance, recorded their names and classes, and helped store their bikes or scooters safely in the school atrium.
The challenge concluded on 19 September 2025 with a 25-kilometre cycling trip to Šariš Ponds and the town of Veľký Šariš, led by our PE teachers and with parental consent. This reward was given to the class with the highest number of active arrivals.
The results were impressive:
Total active trips: 228 in just three days
Winning grade: 6th grade with 78 rides
7th grade: 68 rides
5th and 9th grades: 30 rides each
8th grade: 22 rides
The event promoted sustainable mobility, reduced morning traffic around the school, and inspired pupils to adopt eco-friendly and healthy commuting habits. Teachers reported that pupils arrived more energized and focused for lessons. The school community, parents, and local authorities welcomed the initiative and expressed interest in making it an annual tradition.
