Detailed description (English): “My market” implements a series of actions in 19 Greek cities with the aim of promoting the use of bicycles.
The well-known Greek super market chain launched the "Beautiful City – Bikeable City" project right after it was awarded with the Cycle Friendly Employer certification and with the aim of encouraging citizens to try cycling as an alternative means of transportation in their respective cities.
The project contains the following axes:
Bicycle tips and technical inspection: A qualified technician checks a bike and advises on possible improvements or upgrades.
The “Bicycle Driving License for Kids”, designed for primary school children: Through a series of theoretical and practical exercises, children are introduced to the Highway Code basics and awarded a " Bicycle Driving License ", a title offered under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
E-bike test-drives: Visitors have the opportunity to try modern, high-quality e-bikes.
An anonymous survey is handed to citizens and their answers reflect the cycling culture of each city and will be delivered to the member of the Mayor’s cabinet responsible for urban mobility.
The My market team - supported by local authorities and institutions, schools and sports clubs - organizes events on the central square of every city, inviting locals and visitors to participate.
The project "Beautiful City – Bikeable City" was launched in June 2021 and will be completed in November 2021. It is implemented with the cooperation and under the auspices of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE).
Target group(s): Kids (teach them how to ride), Youth bikers (guidelines about cycling safety) and people who are interested for electric bicycles.
Objectives: Caring for a green planet, educating and encouraging citizens to try cycling as an alternative means of transportation in their respective cities.
