Detailed description (English): FIAB Pisa is launching a participatory campaign to map bicycle parking facilities across the city. The goal is to document in detail their distribution, quality, and shortcomings, and highlight to the municipality the urgent need for secure and sufficient parking.
The initiative follows the city’s decision to remove bikes locked outside racks at the central station. FIAB Pisa questions whether this behavior stems from negligence or simply from a shortage of spaces. Accurate data is needed to clarify the issue.
The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PUMS) promised a 10% increase in bike parking every two years, the creation of secure facilities (with 4 already funded), and frame-locking racks by 2025. Four years later, no secure parking has been built. This mapping will provide reliable figures to monitor progress.

. A geolocated survey (pisa-ciclabile.ushahidi.io/map) collects data such as location, number of spaces, rack type, cover, private use, surveillance, plus a photo. All entries will feed into OpenStreetMap, the world’s largest free geographic database, ensuring open access to the information.
To encourage participation, FIAB Pisa will reward those who map the most racks with high-security bike locks.
Detailed description (original language): FIAB Pisa avvia una campagna di mappatura partecipata dei parcheggi per biciclette. L’obiettivo è documentarne diffusione, qualità e criticità, per richiamare l’attenzione del Comune sull’urgenza di garantire spazi sicuri e sufficienti.
L’iniziativa nasce dopo la decisione dell’amministrazione di rimuovere le bici legate fuori dalle rastrelliere alla stazione centrale. FIAB Pisa si chiede se tale comportamento derivi da incuria o da una reale carenza di stalli: servono dati precisi per capirlo.
Il Piano Urbano della Mobilità Sostenibile (PUMS) prevedeva un aumento del 10% dei parcheggi ogni due anni, la realizzazione di depositi protetti (4 già finanziati) e rastrelliere con bloccatelaio entro il 2025. A quattro anni dall’adozione nessun deposito è stato realizzato: la mappatura servirà a ottenere dati certi per monitorare i progressi.

Un questionario geolocalizzato (pisa-ciclabile.ushahidi.io/map) raccoglie informazioni su posizione, numero di posti, tipo di rastrelliera, copertura, uso privato, presenza di telecamere, più una foto. Tutti i dati confluiranno in OpenStreetMap, il più grande database geografico libero e accessibile.
FIAB Pisa premierà con lucchetti ad alta sicurezza chi mapperà il maggior numero di rastrelliere.

Objectives: Draw the municipal administration’s attention to the urgent need for concrete and rapid measures to ensure anti-theft bike racks and secure storage facilities.
Detect and geolocate existing racks, recording their actual capacity, maintenance status, and security level (presence/absence of frame-locking systems).
Catalogue cases where racks are occupied by scrap or abandoned bikes that prevent their use.
Identify city areas with the highest parking demand (stations, transport hubs, university campuses, and commercial zones) in order to propose priority interventions.
Provide citizens and the administration with an open, updatable dataset to quickly plan new installations and secure storage facilities.
