Detailed description (English): As part of the project “freiRaum Ottensen – the low-car neighborhood“, a traffic concept was developed in which walking and cycling will be given more space in the future and car traffic will play a subordinate role. In the core of the urban district of Ottensen, public car parking spaces will be removed and conditions for active mobility will be improved. As a first step, starting in mid-September 2022, part of Große Brunnenstraße (between Ottenser Hauptstraße and Eulenstraße) will be closed to motor vehicle traffic and will only be accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. At the same time, the former street space will be opened up to the existing square area and new opportunities for dwelling will be created. As part of the European Mobility Week, a street festival will be held in Große Brunnenstraße as a prelude to the newly won open space, inviting people to meet and exchange ideas. There will be play opportunities for children, test drives for sustainable mobility, a musical program, a neighborhood picnic and much more. In addition, residents and interested parties can obtain information about the project “freiRaum Ottensen“ in direct contact with employees of the district office Altona and exchange ideas.
Target group(s): The primary target group are neighboring businesses and residents of the area around Große Brunnenstraße that is to be redesigned. The focus is also on local initiatives and citizens who are affected by the implementation of the traffic concept as a whole or who are proactively involved in this process.
Objectives: The goal is to enable everyone (who is interested) to understand what is happening and why in the Große Brunnenstraße and in the project freiRaum Ottensen as a whole. This is important since the residents should not be divided by the project implementation. Therefore, it will be possible to exchange and discuss opinions with neighbors and with the persons in charge.
