Detailed description (English): The municipality of Holbæk has established it´s first bicycle street, which ensures low speed for all users.
The first evaluations show high satisfaction among families with small children. Now they perceive the street as a safe route.
The street is a key traffic corridor between residential areas and the city centre, including the local schools and educational institutions.
The project already shows great impact with an significant increase in bicycles (from 500 to 750 users a day) and a decrease in the number of cars (from 900 to 120 users a day). On a daily basis, we are monitoring the street traffic via two cameras which count the users and identify their transport mode.
The bicycle street is designed according to a new concept tailored to the infrastructure of Holbæk.
It contains for example, speed limiting measures such as raised surfaces which is located at the intersection.
The next step will be to extend the bicycle street to a new residential area with many families.
Target group(s): Children and young people, based on the fact that the earlier you start using green modes of transport, the more likely you are to continue as an adult.
Objectives: To promote green and safe mode of transport, especially for cyclists.
