Detailed description (English): “Fuenlabradas’ Clean Commuting” is an integrated action proposal within the framework of sustainability and transport that provides an innovative and maintainable solution where workers change from the use of private vehicles into healthier habits transport by combining the use of bicycle and Cercanias train.
As a part of the campaign “Fuenlabradas’ Clean Commuting”, the City Hall of Fuenlabrada is designing safe cyclist routes that easily connect neighbourhoods with the train stations. The objective of the action is to make bicycle transport more attractive in terms of time, cost and comfort against the use of the private car.
To dimension the real impact of the initiative, travel times estimates has been calculated from the different neighbourhoods of Fuenlabrada to the train stations, Madrid and its metropolitan area. The City Hall’s experts have determined those routes which are more attractive on a bicycle than with private vehicles.
Target group(s): Bike schools, Cyclist Associations, Workers, Citizens and Schoolchildren.
Objectives: The genial objective of “Fuenlabrada’s Clean Commuting” is to introduce bicycle use in the daily routine of the citizens, improving intermobility with Cercanias train for commuting to work.
However, “Fuenlabrada’s Clean Commuting” has also specific objectives:
1. Reducing emissions caused by private cars in work commuting at the time air quality is improved.
2. To increase the number of people who combine bicycle and train in their commuting to work. Increase the number of citizens who prefer to use the bicycle as a form of transport.
3. To increase the number of schoolchildren who access school centres in bicycle raising awareness in the future generations.
4. To increase the number of inhabitants involved in sustainable mobility projects, promoting citizen participation in the routes design and bike parking locations.
5. To introduce a clean, innovative system of mobility through the car that safely connects neighbourhoods and stations through micro-interventions in the urban space.
