Detailed description (English): Parking is a growing problem and it will became the major burden to the use of bike in the future. Paths are available, citizens are more concerned for health and climate change, city councils are penalizing the use of fossil combustible systems,… all is aligned for the bike, there is only left what to do with the bike when you are not using it, and make sure it is there where you left it and full when you come back.
We foresee that bikes will be forbidden to be piled up in the street pretty soon, as this is not an orderly way to solve the parking problem, and competition for space, when freed from car parking, will not be so easily taken by cyclist (pedestrians, cycle paths, terrasses for bars, gardening, ... there is a lot of competition for the space). Bikes are not the fancy new guy in town that everyone is willing to give way first. As well, just tying the bike to a bar is not safe, neither can guarantee available park space. We think cities lived with that as bikes were a minor way of commuting, but as the volume of bikes will increase, citizens will require solutions for the same and we will start to see refusal to bikes taking over and require more ordered cities – we have seen with scooters, and we do not foresee a long future of the rental/sharing system based on abandoning the scooter anywhere on the city. Intermodal central parking stations are just answering to one end of the travel, we need to have guaranteed parking on both ends for the user to increase use of bikes, and therefore, increase of sustainable mobility.
UPANDBIKE is thought to satisfy a demand that exists in cities were center towns are packed and complicated to park in, were use of bikes is big, and the climate, culture and landscape allow and boost use of private bikes. We want to help owners of bikes to use the bike in the city, do not oblige them to use rental of city bikes or forced to buy cheap ones in order to avoid loss of assets.
Some of the benefits and the modularities are:
- free ground space.
- install solar cells.
- add battery rechargeable stations.
- coatings that decontaminate by photocatalysis. Not just reduce emission of carbon by substituting fossil combustible engines, but also by capturing NOx, SOx, OVx, … and inert them to basic salts to be diluted into water.
- app, for simplicity of the user (book a spot, route suggestion, shared bikes "family account"...)
- central data system for billing, maintenance….
- prevent vandalism.
- safety for users.
- integration into the public furniture.
Target group(s): Citizens and municipalities = everybody
Objectives: Our objective is to boost sustainable mobility by providing the solution to an increasing need for all those who commute by bike. Also, we want to make cities a better and more comfortable place to live by reducing the pollution.
Partner: upandbike is the brandname for the smart parkings manufactured by Ignasi Clotet SLU, an industrial manufacturing company located in Spain.
