Detailed description (English): Scooter sharing is booming! The free floating and unit economics helped to spread micromobility all over our cities.
BUT, in the same time, free floating is killing our city landscape, causes the increase of CO2 emissions (with vans to collect vehicles every day), suffer from high vandalism rate and can't reach the financial balance, especially in a small and medium size cities...
Docking and charging stations are a solution to all these issues, however, the big question remains: who pays the CAPEX and the infrastructure? And also, how to build an infrastructure accessible to the general public without waiting for months to get a city approval.
WHAT:
KNOT experimented the new way of financing and building the infrastructure for the micromobility services with different partners on a local level: from transportation company to bank and harbour authorities. The scooter sharing service in Strasbourg is docked-based, with all scooters secured and charging 24h/24.
HOW:
Each partner finances a part of the network (1 to 8 stations) in exchange for:
(1) Visibility as for one of the partners for the micromobility network in Strasbourg,
(2) Special access for the employees (50% discount on the public offer)
(3) Direct access for the employees as docks are located nearby the partners' facilities on a private ground accessible to public.
WHERE:
Center city of Strasbourg + the nearby locations to connect with suburb areas, 25 fully operational stations (from 4 to 24 slots to charge and lock a scooter per station)
Target group(s): For: inhabitants and visitors of Strasbourg, employees of partner companies
Concept is duplicable in any city
Objectives: - Provide a scooter (bike) sharing network in the city with a reduced (or zero) investment from the public sector
- Make a profitable public sharing scooter network (reduced maintenance cost as vandalism is lower and operational expenses are higher)
- Engage private actors into creating transportation network
- Bring micromobility to small and medium size cities
Partner: PARCUS (city Parking operator)
