Detailed description (English): The Mobility and Sustainable Development Weeks , spearheaded by Karos from September 11 to 29, 2023, aims at enhancing sustainable urban mobility across France. The core activity is the "Grand Défi Mobilité" (Mobility Challenge), urging our client entities to adopt carpooling, showcasing its environmental, social, and economic benefits.
This initiative involves a friendly competition among entities, culminating in an awards ceremony on October 12, 2023, at Karos' Paris offices. The event hosted mobility-themed workshops and networking sessions.
This year, prize lots were introduced to boost engagement, addressing the previous year's challenge of stakeholder involvement. A post-event digital summary highlighted the participation of 84 enterprises and 20 territories with notable achievements like "Best Launch: L'Occitane" and "Most Purchasing Power Unlocked: Michelin" among companies, and "Most Referrals: La Réunion" and "Most Engaged Territory: Métropole de Lyon" among territories.
The challenge yielded inspiring results: 206 tonnes of CO2 saved, over 48,000 carpooling engagements, and €400,000 of purchasing power unlocked, exclusively by the users of participating clients over the three-week challenge period.
Through SMDD 2023, Karos emphasizes the importance of effective matching in carpooling, fostering a community amongst our client entities dedicated to sustainable urban mobility, thus championing a significant behavioral shift towards a more eco-conscious commuting culture across France.
Target group(s): Enterprises: Our client companies are invited to partake in the mobility challenge, encouraging their employees to adopt carpooling. This initiative enables them to exhibit their dedication to sustainable practices, foster a community spirit among employees, and potentially mitigate parking and commuting challenges. Moreover, participating enterprises have the opportunity to be acknowledged and rewarded for their efforts in advocating for sustainable mobility, with awards tailored to reflect the efforts relative to their size, ensuring fairness and inclusivity in recognition.
Territories: The challenge extends to the citizens of our partner territories, stimulating local businesses and residents towards embracing carpooling. This not only fosters a sustainable urban mobility culture within the region but also positions the territories as proactive players in reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion.
Employees and Local Residents: Individuals are the direct beneficiaries as they are provided with a practical, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly commuting alternative. The challenge aims at instigating a behavioral shift towards sustainable commuting habits, with participants enjoying financial savings, a reduced carbon footprint, and a sense of community engagement.
Karos Community: The broader community of Karos users reaps the benefits from the heightened awareness and increased participation in carpooling, contributing to a more vibrant and effective carpooling network.
The Environment: By advocating for carpooling, the initiative contributes to reducing the number of vehicles on the road, which in turn lowers greenhouse gas emissions and alleviates traffic congestion, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.
The essence of the challenge was to reward each participant based on their efforts, with award categories thoughtfully designed to accommodate the community, often related to the number of employees or residents. The aim was to acknowledge the committed efforts, regardless of the client's size, ensuring everyone had a fair chance to be recognized and rewarded.
Objectives: Promote Sustainable Mobility: Encourage the adoption of carpooling among enterprises, territories, and individuals to reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion, aligning with broader sustainable urban mobility goals.
Engagement and Competition: Foster a competitive yet collaborative environment among participating entities to motivate and sustain engagement in carpooling practices through the Mobility Challenge.
Behavioral Change and Long-term Adoption: Through the competition and the ensuing rewards, aim to instigate a long-term behavioral shift among participants towards choosing more sustainable commuting options. The objective is to make carpooling an integral part of their daily commuting habits, establishing a lasting positive impact even beyond the challenge.
Awareness and Education: Raise awareness about the benefits of carpooling and sustainable mobility, educating participants on the positive impact they can have on the environment, public health, and their own finances.
Community Building: Strengthen the community of carpoolers, facilitating connections among individuals and creating a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose in reducing carbon footprint.
Recognition and Rewarding Sustainability: Recognize and reward the efforts of enterprises, territories, and individuals in promoting and adopting sustainable mobility practices, thereby incentivizing further engagement.
Replicability: Showcase the Mobility Challenge as a replicable model that other regions or organizations could adopt to promote sustainable mobility and achieve similar positive outcomes.
Scalability and Perpetuation: Display the repeated success of the Mobility Challenge, marking its second year, as a testament to its scalability and potential for perpetuation, encouraging more regions and organizations to adopt similar initiatives for promoting sustainable mobility.
Back-to-School Context: Highlight that this challenge coincides with the back-to-school period, a time typically associated with the start of new contracts, re-engagement with existing ones, and a general openness among individuals to adopt new habits due to changes like new activities, new jobs, or new schedules. This timing is strategic as it leverages a period where users are more receptive to embracing new commuting habits.
Data Collection and Impact Measurement: Collect valuable data on carpooling habits, carbon emissions saved, and other key metrics to measure the impact of the challenge and to inform future sustainable mobility initiatives.
Enhanced Communication and Collaboration: Facilitate better communication and collaboration among participating entities, Karos, and the broader community, fostering a dialogue on sustainable mobility solutions.
