Detailed description (English): WeWard is French company created in 2019 with a simple objective : Make people walk, the world over.
WeWard understands that humans are hardwired for the reward. Therefore, to motivate people to walk, we’ve developed a free mobile app based on a playful and social rewarded system: the more the user walks during his day, the more points he accumulates (Wards). This is the very heart of the concept.
Also, it is possible to earn more Wards by going to local shops, by participating in walking challenges or via a marketplace backed in the application which offers products related to walking, sport and health.
The Wards earned can then be converted into donations to associations, vouchers or euros.
Since 2019, WeWard has already integrates the daily habit of millions of users in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom and increase in average the walking time by 24%, according to a rigorous study carried out by a research office. It tackles global issues such as sedentary lifestyles and pollution. There are numerous users who substitute walking for the car and who go more often to the shops near their homes.
Thus, WeWard creates a positive impact on health, ecology and local dynamism, 3 sustainable development goals set by the UN in its 2030 Agenda.
Target group(s): WeWard targets everyone, as long as they can walk and have a smartphone
Almost everyone is now affected by a sedentary lifestyle, regardless of their age, their social statut, etc. All of them can find their source of motivation in the application: competition between friends, donations, shopping, sportive challenge, discovery of new places...
Objectives: New technologies has designed a world for our brains, not for our bodies. This means that we are constantly overstimulated and not moving enough. It therefore impacts also our mental health and make us feeling burnt out, anxious, lonely and unhealthy.
We believe walking can return balance to our lives by helping us move at a more natural speed.
Walking is the least restrictive and most accessible physical activity for the population.
Walking is an ecological gesture, which makes it possible to replace many carbon-intensive journeys. As a reminder, in France, 40% of journeys made by car are less than 3km, and 10% less than 1km.
Walking is a social gesture. It's connecting with communities and neighbors. It fosters belonging and allows people to (re) connect with their city, region while participating in the local economy.
The simple act of walking is good for our bodies, our minds, and the planet. That’s the reason why WeWard wants to get more people walking the world over, by any means necessary.
Partner: WeWard has around 500 partners, including major sport, mobility or health/wellness providers, such as Adidas, Nike, Withings, OuiGO, Yves Rocher, The Body Shop, etc.
WeWard also works with many associations such as UN Women, UNICEF, WWF, Les Rois du Monde, EdenProject, Mission Bambini, etc.
