Detailed description (English): The aim of the event is to educate the general public about the use of bicycles as an alternative way of exploring destinations, but also to inform the tourism sector about the economic opportunities that arise from investing in cycling tourism. Greece’s tourism industry is based on seasonal tourism based on the traditional “sun and beach” touristic product. Cycling tourism provides the opportunity for the economic development of isolated settlements, while contributing to the extension of the tourist season. Stakeholders and decision-makers will be informed about the economic opportunities of cycling tourism, but also the way they could contribute through new service provision and new cycling infrastructure construction to the development of this alternative way to explore destinations. The aim is to stimulate private interest in offering cyclist-dedicated services in parallel with the mobilisation of local authorities to create the appropriate infrastructure and conditions for cycling growth. The above will be achieved through two promotional booths in two coastal-tourist cities of Greece, Preveza and Parga, and the organization of a workshop in Preveza. During those events, face-to-face contact and printed flyers will be used to stimulate interest and explain the benefits of cycling tourism growth. Businesses certified as bike-friendly will also be presented. The workshop will be attended by representatives of ministries and local and regional authorities who make political decisions and play a vital role towards enhancing cycling tourism.
