Detailed description (English): Discover ECOCITY’s annual environmental campaign, an educational program that strives to influence positive changes in the direction of sustainable mobility within urban environments, in cooperation with local municipalities all over Greece. This innovative project stimulates the participating students to research and find solutions for the mobility issues they face in their cities. Within the framework of the program, the students can propose sustainable, realistic, and feasible solutions to motivate authorities and create public awareness, aiming at citizens' advocacy and changing attitudes towards sustainable and accessible mobility.
The organizing and scientific committees of the campaign pay close attention to maintaining high educational standards for the students, providing them with valid sources for their research and guiding them to formulate feasible solutions for the mobility problems they face in their cities. By participating in ECOMOBILITY, students get the chance to advance their critical view on mobility thus examining the transport issues of their communities. During the program, students have the opportunity to communicate with decision-makers, influencers, and public opinion pioneers such as the major of their municipality, acknowledged university professors and members of the science society, and artists. Throughout the program, they accumulate numerous soft skills such as creating a sense of responsibility, problem-solving, efficient time management, project management, critical formation of priorities, and communicating efficiently.
Target group(s): The success of ECOMOBILITY in secondary education schools and its reputation invited requests for ECOCITY to design a similar program for special school pupils, with emphasis on the accessibility problems special needs students have to surpass in their everyday life (Freemobility). Accordingly, adults attending Second Chance Schools perform Eco2mobility as part of their regular training program to raise their awareness on topics related to sustainable and accessible mobility. So, since 2018 the three campaigns (ECOMOBILITY – Freemobility – Eco2mobility) have been implemented simultaneously in different school categories on a national level.
Objectives: The expected results of the program, as have been realized and measured throughout the years, are:
• To inspire junior high, special school, and second chance school students and their surroundings (families, school society, and friends) to change their behavior and establish awareness around sustainable and accessible mobility for all.
• To influence local authorities' plans and push for positive changes in the mobility regime of their city.
