Detailed description (English): The Green Postal Day campaign to be launched simultaneously by postal operators in Europe and beyond aims to raise awareness of the postal industry efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the last mile delivery. The Green Postal Day campaign will highlight the collective efforts by postal operators to reduce their CO2 emissions, for instance through an increased use of renewable energy and alternative-fuel vehicles. The Green Postal Day will also feature concrete case studies from the individual postal operators. The postal sector is one of the only industry sectors to have its own collective sustainability measurement and reporting programme, since 2009. Since then postal operators have reached a reduction of almost 30% of their joint CO2 emissions, well ahead of the 20% reduction target by 2020. The Postal Sector Sustainability programme results are third-party audited by PwC and the collective results have been published yearly since 2009. In 2019, posts extended their efforts to measure, report and learn from one another and launched the Sustainability Monitoring and Management System (SMMS) programme. Based on extensive stakeholder engagement, reporting is based on seven categories which relate to five UN SDGs where posts could have the most positive impact.
