Detailed description (English): Like many modern regions, the Brainport area faces challenges in regional accessibility and sustainable mobility. The region is known for its large compagnies (a.o. ASML, Philips, DAF), with their employees substantially contributing to daily commuting patterns, regional accessibility, and congestion. With all public and private stakeholders supporting the (economic, social and environmental) sustainability objectives, the challenge was how to break through the conventional sustainable urban planning approach and willingness to contribute to actual short-term action.
To achieve this break-through, companies were invited to share data about the home and work location(s) of all employees to calculate the multi-modal accessibility. In a parallel vein, road authorities were requested to share their multi-modal mobility plans to calculate future multi-modal accessibility. Next, a standard survey was conducted among employees to retrieve the actual commuting behaviour. Combined with the access and mobility services of companies the BMI was developed. BMI relates to health and stands for accessibility and mobility index.
Combining four (normally separated) data flows results in (1) valuable insights for in accessibility for road authorities (WIN) (2) insights for mobility brokers to advise of companies (WIN) and (3) customized mobility options for employees (WIN).
Based on BMI insights (1) new dedicated public-private financed bus services were developed facilitating sustainable commuting for employees not living in the proximity of regular PT (2) real (e-)cycling potential.
