Detailed description (English): Mobility Actions on EU Mobility Week
As making existing cities and new urban development more ecologically based and liveable is an urgent priority in the global push for sustainability.
We have been fostering sustainable transportation in the form of more pedestrianization with walkways and cycling routes, public transit systems that operate on clean and renewable energy sources, bicycle stations with bicycle sharing options, networks of green corridors that connect people and open space, etc. The use of sustainable means as bicycle and walking can help reduce emissions, waste and support the local economy as well.
We are planning to organise the following four mobility actions during the auspicious occasion of EU Mobility Week:
Experience Sharing on Sustainable Mobility (Sept 16)
With the use of an Android app-StoryStudio, capable of creating stories and mapping GPS points, to capture the experience of people regarding sustainable mobility. Here, we will invite citizens to share pictures, videos or short stories on walking, cycling or using electric vehicles through their social media channels.
Mapping of Sustainable Mobility Activities (Sept 18)
While commuting, people may encounter cycle repair shops in their way, difficult trails for walking or cycling etc. People can map those points in Google Maps and OpenStreetMap so that the accumulated data can be compiled later and that can be used in addressing such problems from the local government.
Bicycle Training ( August 28 - Sep 19)
To promote mobility action, we have carried out a campaign on bicycle mobility providing bicycle maintenance workshops ONLINE in Kathmandu Valley. The participants are also provided with video tutorials on bicycle maintenance through our social network.
International Knowledge Forum (IKF) - 2020 - Pre Discussion 20
IKF-2020 is an online conference organised by The Netherlands’ Alumni Association of Nepal (NAAN). This event will bring practitioners and leaders from various institutions and discuss on the topics such as governance, sustainable development, infrastructure development, resilient health with cross cutting themes such as Capacity Strengthening, Gender / equality, Resiliency and Vulnerability, Economics, Finance and Employment and Impacts of COVID-19 through interactive discussions, knowledge sharing, training, and networking.
Bhaktapur at Night (Sep 22)
To boost walkability in the tantric city Bhaktapur, we are organizing a virtual tour so that the importance of the place can be recalled and we can visualize the place even in the time of pandemics. The night ambience of the place is especially incredible.
Target group(s): Youths, cycle and walking commuters( inclusive to all public)
Objectives: Auditing the streets of cities for walking and cycle friendly infrastructure and raising awareness on the importance of walking and cycling culture through capacity building activities and interactions.
Expected Outcomes: Accommodate cities of Nepal with an elaborate network of cycle-paths and lanes, safe and comfortable that even toddlers and elderly people use bicycles as the easiest mode of transport support. Promote heritage walks to encourage walking for walking tourism collaborating with local clubs and youth groups - Organising active mobility competitions in or between workplaces, neighbourhoods and schools in order to encourage people to cycle and walk more. Heritage walks with people living and working in the vicinity and/or having a special affinity to it and step towards preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage and an opportunity to see how the city and its history has transformed through time. The walk strives to awake the need for awareness and realisation of the importance of these sites, which bear great historical and cultural importance.
Partner: Story Cycle, in collaboration with Nepal Mountain Bike Tours and GD Labs and Research, has launched a facilitation campaign called "Mobility Plus ". We are working closely with the private sector, governments, civic leaders, unions, NGOs, and universities globally to help them succeed and to collectively shape the future of mobility.
