Detailed description (English): The city of Helsingborg has teamed up with Nudgd in their aspirations to enhance its cycling rate from the current 11% to match other cities (25%-33%). The objective is to encourage local cycling habits and foster an attractive bicycle culture. An essential strategy is promoting cycling to school for children, which can facilitate parents' shift to active transportation.
In this project, financed by EIT Urban Mobility through the project Rapid Applications for Transport (RAPTOR), the Smart Nudges platform will be used to nudge parents and staff at primary schools of Helsingborg. In September, the parents and staff, will be invited to take a survey on travel behaviors and also to be invited to the platform that hosts personalized nudges towards more sustainable mobility, with a focus on replacing car trips to school with active mobility.
The platform, although novel for schools, is grounded in a tried-and-tested model already operative in multiple Swedish cities and workplaces. It provides tailored interventions, using incentives like societal norms and visualization tools, showing results of up to 14% reduction of car travel amongst the users and 40+ % that states that they have adapted or plan to adapt more sustainable travel behaviors.
The solution, initially focusing on replacing car trips with bike rides or walking, has garnered interest from various European cities, hinting at its scalability. Post its RAPTOR initiative, Nudgd envisions expanding its adaptable platform across multiple urban landscapes.
