Detailed description (English): Kindergarten children are enthusiastic about cycling, we teach them the skills of movement on a bicycle and introduce them to the importance of safe riding as part of the "Foots to Pedals" pilot project at "Bicivrtec", which takes place in Trnovo Vrtec, Ljubljana. The project has been presented at the world's largest cycling meeting, Velo-city 2022.
We are convinced that children who are introduced to the rules of safe cycling from their first steps on a bicycle will definitely follow them when they grow up. During the implementation of Sustainable mobility week, we found that children are the best teachers for their parents, so we believe that even the little ones from Trnovo Kindergarten will encourage their parents to bring them to kindergarten by bicycle instead of by car, and continue their daily journeys with them. In this way, we will influence changes in the travel habits of adult citizens.
As part of the Bicivrtec pilot project, we secured the purchase of six high-quality scooters, six bikes of different sizes, as well as helmets and other didactic equipment, with the help of which the cognitive, sensory, dexterity and motor skills of children will be promoted in the kindergarten and they will be taught safe driving at Foot on pedals pedagogic programme.
We are convinced that the children will not only learn how to ride a bicycle, but will also gain the skills and knowledge to move the world in the right direction - towards the environment and their own health - in a more friendly direction.
The project is supported by The Municipality of Ljubljana.
