Detailed description (English): Ankara Metropolitain Municipality is implementing a pilot Smart Bicycle Sharing System (SBSS) that will include almost 500 e-bikes and 34 SBSS stations with the support of IPA 2 . The required technology, stations and the locations were identified by considering Ankara’s active population number per neighbourhoods, areas where public institutions, universities and social life are concentrated, as well as the possibilities for inter-modal transportation. AMM is planning to implement the Smart Bicycle Sharing System as a pilot project to the SUMP and to use it as a demonstration for the benefits that sustainable mobility could bring to the citizens and the urban environment. Moreover, electrical bicycles will be equipped with GPS, which will enable to collect data for bike usage frequency, routes, trip length, intermodal trips. Data and information obtained from the pilot implementation will be analysed within the Operation and the effectiveness and efficiency of the pilot system will be evaluated, so to provide basis for further deployment. The SBSS will also support the awareness raising activities on the SUMP process and the EU support on sustainable mobility. It is expected the SUMP for the AMM functional area and the pilot Smart Bicycle Sharing System establish the necessary conditions for a gradual shift to sustainable mobility and to contribute this way for: improving the quality of life, reducing the transportation-health-energy etc. costs and traffic accidents, decreasing air-noise-environmental pollution and emission rates.
Target group(s): The Operation will address the mobility needs of Ankara’s functional area population, visitors, and economic entities, which determines the following target groups, whose needs will be addressed within the SUMP preparation and pilot project for a Smart Bicycle Sharing System:
• Pupils, students, youth
• Employees and commuters traveling daily to/from work and/or education
• Elderly people
• People with low income
• People without access to private car
• Impaired mobility people
• Employers and business owners
• City visitors and tourists.
Objectives: The overall objective of the proposed Operation is to contribute to improving the liveability and sustainability of Ankara by provision of safer, cleaner, accessible and affordable mobility. Also to adopt a SUMP for Ankara in line with the EU best practices and establish a new Smart Bicycle Sharing System
