Detailed description (English): The BEI is a kind of transport that is being incorporated into the Vitoria-Gasteiz public transport network. It is a new form of mobility with electric vehicles, a high-capacity convoy, an access platform at stops, exclusive lanes and priority at traffic lights. In short, the BEI is a non-polluting means of transport that enables journeys to be made in less time.
Why the Vitoria-Gasteiz BEI?
One of the objectives of the revision of the city's Mobility and Public Space Plan is to improve and promote public transport in the city by making it more sustainable and efficient. The BEI is a means of transport that combines the high capacity, comfort and accessibility of the service with its commitment to zero-emission electric mobility. For this reason, the most used lines have been chosen, with greater correspondence with other lines, which links 14 districts of the city and provides services that are highly demanded by the public: HUA (University Hospital of Alava), Bus Station, University.
Details of the project
The fleet is made up of seven new 18-metre long buses and six 12-metre long buses, with an avant-garde design and state-of-the-art technology. The vehicles, which are totally electric, run along part of the route in exclusive lanes. The implementation of the Smart Electric Bus has also been accompanied by various interventions in the public space. Buses run on a 3.5 metre wide reserved lane. A "green corridor" with trees, shrubs and flowering plants has been created along the entire route. Traffic light priority and segregated lanes led to reduction in travel times
