Detailed description (English): Zacharof street is situated in Athens City Center and comprises the lateral connection between Alexandras avenue and Vassilissis Sofias avenue leading to Mesogeion Avenue. In all those avenues the pavements are large enough allowing pedestrians to walk on without any serious obstacles. But on this connection street there is a very narrow sidewalk of 20 cm width. Extra obstacles like electricity columns and traffic signs make it impossible to walk on it, where cars are passing by at a high speed (Speed limit for cars in the city is 50 km/h and is rarely respected, especially in main avenues). We intend to occupy only the one out of the three lanes intended for the car traffic on Saturday the 17th September 2016 between 12.00 and 14.00 o'clock stretching out the need pedestrians to be considered during city planning. The occupied lane is going to be sufficiently highlighted and car drivers will be warned in time allowing pedestrian to use this traffic lane only temporarily. The members of our organisation will wear special T-Shirt made for this purpose. We have also received a support letter coming from the Ministry of Environment, which is actually not responsible for car traffic and traffic arrangement in Greek Cities.
Target group(s): Pedestrians, handicapped and elderly people,
Objectives: We demand enough space for pedestrians to move in the Greek cities
Expected Outcomes: 10 members of the organisation, and other invited friends. Enlargement of the sidewalk to give enough space to walk on.
