Detailed description (English): In Europe more than 70% of people now live in cities and it is expected that the number will increase to 80% in 2050.
The sustainable development of cities is a necessity that is becoming increasingly complex to perform. One of the biggest challenges is to increase the infrastructure, to adapt it to the needs of citizens, while at the same time reducing the environmental impact so that people can live healthier lives.
The citizens themselves, of all ages, must shoulder some of the responsibility to promote change and give up the seemingly easy solution (private car use) to find alternative ways of getting around town.
One of the ways to reduce the environmental impact is to use multimodal practices; collective public transport along with other non-polluting vehicles and / or by walking.
Product Design students of IED Rome coordinated by Marika Aakesson have designed products and services trying to solve three important problems of our day, of our future, and future generations: urban mobility, air pollution in the cities and the sedentary lifestyle. The ideas behind the designs are to help people change habits by making it easy, cool, safe and fun to get around the city.
