Detailed description (English): The Ferrars Academy have joined Luton Council's campaign to help improve air quality in Luton as part of their new environmental agenda. We are seeking to raise awareness and try to educate drivers around the impacts of the quality of air, people's health and financial implications when engines are running unnecessarily.
When people needlessly leave their engines running when parked, the Council Neighbourhood Enforcement and parking enforcement teams will positively engage with these drivers and encourage them to switch off their engines and explain the harm to the environment. This is because we know that carbon emissions from cars also significantly contributes to climate change, so we also want to encourage drivers to turn their engines off when they are parked.
Our school have already started to promote this campaign by placing a banner on our school fence which is visible to drivers, sent a newsletter home to parents with details of the campaign and our elected school Travel Titans have encouraged their peers and staff to talk to parents about turning engines off when they park.
As our children return ready to take this campaign further in September, we aim to continue our efforts to promote and raise awareness of this campaign to help promote a behavioural shift towards sustainable urban mobility culture.
Target group(s): School Parents/Carers, Neighbourhood, Staff members
