The measure seeks to pedestrianise permanently part of Triq is-Sorijiet iz-Zghar tal-Fqar which is enclosed by Pjazza San Pawl and Triq il-Kbira San Guzepp, Hamrun. As part of the measure, Hamrun Local Council also plans to build a new, safe and fully accessible square and playing area for younger children. This shall serve as a recreational space and as well as a 'green lung' for the highly urbanised locality.

Car-free day Car-free day

Hamrun carries out a Car-Free Day 2019 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
St. Joseph High Street Hamrun is a main arterial road as well as a busy commercial hub in the region. With plenty of shops, offices and showrooms, the road will be closed to celebrate Car-Free Day and access will only be limited to public transport and emergency vehicles).

A number of activities will take place on the day including a workshop on walking and cycling and related health gains. The public is invited to attend with their own bicycles, on foot or any other transport service to be organized on the day. Informative leaflets about other modes of transport will also be distributed.

Other entertainment activities involving local communities, businesses and enterprises will be organised.
