Participation 2009

Activities within the week Activities within the week

Gdynia organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2009, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
1) PT competition A competition for monthly ticket owners – to encourage people to use PT regularly and also reward them for using it already. We will award 10 monthly tickets for the most interesting proposals of a new PT slogan. For the trolley buses we have a slogan saying “When you use the trolley bus, you protect the environment for an A+”. We would like something new and just as catchy for all PT vehicles.

2) “Bus gallery”
Inviting school children to decorate interior of buses and trolley buses with their drawing. Each participating class or group of pupils will have a one day trip to the PT company, where they will have a tour and a “lesson” on transport susainability, how PT functions now and how it was in the past and buses/trolley buses as an eco-friendly mean of transport and they will be able to see and check that the bus is as “cool” as the car. After the trip pupils will draw pictures connected to PT – i.e.: showing their reflections, how they see PT.
In connection to action nr 6 buses taking part in the old bus parade will be decorated with the pictures to make them more colourful and pleasant to look. After 22nd Sept the pictures will be moved and exhibited in the City Hall for 2 weeks.

3) „Youngest PT users”
Promoting PT to all users and showing people that it is possible to keep on using PT having a small child and that it is not an obsticle, as many people might think. In Gdynia we have most low floor busses and trolley buses, which can „lean” to enable easier access for passangers and there is enough space for 3 prams in each vehicle.
When a family gets bigger a lot of people (young mothers) in Poland are triggerd to switch from PT to car when travelling, as it is regarded as faster and “easier”.
We will invite PT users to send us by e-mail pictures of their young children (age from 1-5). The photos should be connected to PT – ie.: in a bus, in front of a bus, with a monthly ticket. The photos will be shown in PT vehicles on TV screens between other information played there (which many buses and trolley buses in Gdynia have).
The collection of photos will be started at the beginning of Sept. and shown from the 18th of Sept. till the 30th Sept.

5) “PT for Free”
Public Transport will be free on Tuesday 22nd Sept. to encourage all citizens to take part in the Car Free Day and to switch from car to bus.

6) Old bus parade
The Public Transport company will celebrate 80 years of PT in Gdynia this year and will organize a parade of old buses and trolley buses on Gdynia’s main street and then they will be exhibited on a square. The oldest vehicle will be over 50 years old. In connection to action 2, the interiors of the buses will be decorated with pupils’ drawings, so they will become bus galleries.
