Activities within the week Activities within the week

Nottingham organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
In brief in Nottingham we will be:

Hosting a sustainable travel information stall in Victoria Centre shopping centre on 21st Sept with a presence from the City Council, the Big Wheel sustainable transport marketing team , the County Council, the Energy Savings Trust, Trent Barton and Nottingham City Transport bus operators and the Shape Up Notts! Workplace Challenge team. This will provide general information about travel options and encourage people to think about trying a different travel option on 22nd and encourage people to sign up to the Workplace Challenge which is running from June to October 2010 and aims to get people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire more active with a particular emphasis on active travel options.

RideWise, a local not for profit cycle training organisation are organising some community rides in connection with the City Council's tenant involvement month and a group bike ride on 22nd Sept to celebrate the success of the Cycling for Health project during European Mobility Week. Cycling for Health project is one of 2 regional health promotion projects which targets people in communities of low activity levels and encourage them to take up cycling by providing one to one training, social activities and free reconditioned loan cycles. The project is in its second year and is proving to be a successful approach to engaging hard to reach communities.

The Big Wheel sustainable transport marketing team have produced a range of information for business and households including leaflets with simple tips to help people to try new travel options as well as information on the Big Wheel website at www.thebigwheel.org.uk and targeted e-mailing to our business contacts.

The City Council's staff travel co-ordinator is organising a staff travel roadshow for City Council staff at our three main offices to promote sustainable travel options and to encourage trying new travel options during the week. The road show will also include other activities to get staff engaged including health checks and a Dr Bike service.
