Quito’s Municipality will pedestrianize 9 square blocks within the city´s historical centre, the area between the following streets: Bolívar, Benalcázar, Olmedo, Guayaquil, Mejía and Flores. This is considered to be one the busiest areas of the city; it is the host to most Municipal departments and also a few of the Presidential Departments. The Historic Centre or Downtown is also the shopping hub for many of Quito’s inhabitants, and lastly it is a popular tourist destination because of its old architecture.
The two boulevards, mentioned above have increased the areas for pedestrians and bicycles while reduced the motorized vehicles’ space.
