Activities within the week Activities within the week

Gent (Ghent) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2022, taking into account the annual theme.

16 September
On Friday 16 September, 'Strapdag' will take place. On this day, we call on all children to walk or pedal/cycle to school that day. Dozens of schools in Ghent will make the street at the school gate traffic-free for 1 day and organize extra activities to draw attention to Strapdag. On the occasion of the Mobility Week, the City of Ghent and De Lijn (transport company) are working together to offer free transport from four P+R locations (Ledeberg, Gentbrugge E17, Gentbrugge Arsenaal and Oostakker).
18 September
Car-Free Day: the City of Ghent hosts a lot of activities on Car-Free Day under the name 'ZOEF'. On the agenda: music, food trucks, picnic, a mobility market, animation & street theater on the B401 and in the Zuidpark. In the morning, the runners of the ABSoluut Gent 10 Miles will also pass over the B401. 19 September
The City of Ghent will show inspiring testimonial videos in which we follow employees of 4 different companies/organizations on their sustainable journey to work. (This action runs during mobility week and not specifically on this day.)
20 September
The HR Department of the City of Ghent is organizing a competition in which we challenge departments/teams to take a picture of an applause action (action where people applaud for those who come to work sustainably). Winners receive bicycle lights or fluorescent vests, a reference to the dark days ahead. (This action runs during mobility week and not specifically on this day.)
21 September
Repetition of the campaign about keeping sufficient distance between cars and (moped) cyclists. The campaign warns drivers to keep 1 meter sideways distance from cyclists and moped riders within built-up areas. Outside built-up areas that is 1,5 meters. If there is no sufficient space, drivers are not allowed to overtake and must stay behind a cyclist or moped rider. The City of Ghent wants to make this traffic rule better known through advertisements on social media.
