Activities within the week Activities within the week

Alimos organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2022, taking into account the annual theme.

16 September
All-day school with mobility "hour"
In the schools of our city, a new educational hour is being included, through which we will present the action and the vision of the European Mobility Week. Young children will "walk" along the interesting paths of the new era and evolution. Teachers and students will travel with stories, games and adventures in an innovative world discovering the enchanting, for their childhood, aspects of a new reality!

The All-Day School can function as an important tool for shaping children as members of society. In this context, our Municipality, on the initiative of the Mayor Mr. Andreas Kondylis, proposes the establishment of this action for the entire school year, as a pilot in our city. The "mobility hour" will occupy the children only in their free time.

What's your superpower? My Bike!
This year, Alimos didn't just "exhilarate" its citizens... it managed to go one step further than that by taking as an ally in this effort the loved ones heroes of all children…and not only!

The superheroes visit our city and show everyone what their super power is: The bike, the skate, the wheelchair and their smile! An unexpected surprise in the streets and playgrounds of Alimos is coming, to entertain and at the same time teach the young children about the environmentally friendly means of transport. The model of superheroes will be impressed on the consciousness of the children and will be an example to imitate for their own everyday life, spreading joy and vitality in our area!
18 September
Clean ride, Bike wash station!
For the first time in a European city, citizens have access to free bicycle washing stations! Clean Ride is a washing station that will cover the needs of bicycles and skates of all types as well as wheelchairs. This is a station ideal for quick rinsing or even more demanding cleaning. This station will be a creative choice for all those who want to take care of their means of transport, as it is designed for outdoor sharing, giving access to everyone. Includes 4 cleaning accessories specifically for the bicycle, the support clamp does not damage the bicycle and adapts to all types of bicycles. It encourages the regular use and maintenance of the bicycle and of course it is an action that encourages the citizens to go for a ride by bicycle, being at the same time a pole of attraction for an escape to the city parks, while it provides a solution for the residents of the big cities who face difficulty in washing their bikes inside the apartments.

Visit to Alimos City Hall
The official mascot of theEMW, Edgar, as well as Edda, are visiting our city for the first time! The project of visiting and discovering different European cities through the mascot Edgar was created as an opportunity for cultural and interactive exchanges between primary schools from different countries. The goal is not only for the children to gain new knowledge about a different way of life than the one they know, but at the same time for our little friends

to see Edgar and Edda traveling by environmentally friendly means, by bike, bus, train, on foot and create the right stimuli for them to move better, while broadening their horizons.
20 September
City lines mix them and move to the future!
Colored markings with lines on city streets turn commuting into... a game! The green line leads to the park, the red to the bus station, the yellow to outdoor gym, the blue one at the beach in our city and the orange one at the metro station!

This new way of marking is a wonderful opportunity to further improve the commuting experience, reminding us that all roads lead to a better way of life! Through this innovative signaling, our aim is to give priority to the guidance of children about how one should behave on the road both as a pedestrian and as a future driver of a car, bicycle and skate. At the same time, our aim is to raise awareness of our children from a very young age towards people with mobility difficulties who are entitled to enjoy the same facilities in their daily transport, but also to respect the environment, discovering more easily the means of public transport and other alternatives modes of transportation.
21 September
Torch Relay of love
How could we get the message of Mobility Week across so that everyone can hear it? On Wednesday we all participate in the symbolic torch relay that will take place in our city, we go out into the streets and onto our balconies to admire it, have fun and spread this important action together!
Route: Marina Alimos - Kalamakiou Street - Theomitoros - Ionia Street - Karaiskaki Square (Mary Aronis Theatre)
22 September
Leave the car…save the planet
The main road of our city is closed and the World car-free day is again a fact! Once again, we managed to give more free "space" to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport, with the aim of raising awareness and developing a substantial environmental consciousness, capable of facilitating the movement of all residents, young and old, within the everyday life of the city.

On the same day, the Mayor of our city awards last year's participants and congratulates them on the great success of being ranked as a finalist in the EMW 2021 competition!
