Detailed description (English): The promotion of a new mobility culture represents the best long-term strategy for overcoming problems associated with traffic congestion in cities and the issues deriving from it. A central role is played by education about a new and more sustainable model in the broader sense, i.e. focusing on environmental issues, sharing mobility, road safety, sensitisation to multimodal transport and
interoperability, as well as a more sustainable approach to local public services as a whole.
The core activity will be the setup of ad hoc training for high school students, important in preparing them for a competition seeking to build the Manifesto for sustainable mobility - the mobility of the future, the Italian schools manifesto constructed from creative materials and assignments of various kinds which will then be presented at national level and locally in the metropolitan cities.
The reference professors of the participating students will in turn be trained and then assisted and equipped with a multimedia teaching kit to support assignment activities for the children in preparation for the competition. This course will be firmly anchored in intense institutional reporting at local and national level to give a stronger voice and authority to the entire process, obviously in addition to guaranteeing as firm an agreement as possible among the various stakeholders involved in these issues.
It will be fundamental, in fact, to ensure extensive, transversal and integrated knowledge of the topic, taking into account the different facets. All the various steps in the project will be accompanied by appropriate communications activities.
The goal is to create empowerment among young people, transforming the school into a trigger point for more expansive thought about mobility now and in the future, up to engaging the various communities of reference.
This project aims to measure the effective impact of the different actions proposed in terms of improving awareness of the issue, expertise, motivation and especially changes in behaviour and attitude on the road.
The activities will be carried out at high schools in 14 metropolitan cities: Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Messina, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Turin, Venice. As this is a three-year project, the target is identified as third year students (in the 2019/20 school year).
The focus for the project is the major cities, as these are where all urban and peripheral mobility aspects can be found, and because their territorial layout is well suited to testing new forms of mobility.
The project activities will begin in February 2019 and end in December 2021.
Target group(s): students, teachers, civil society, establishment
