Target group(s): - Local citizens and community representatives.
- Participants of the festival interested in the topic of the action.
- Professionals, researchers, and students interested in transport issues.
- Local authorities, particularly officials that deal with Sustainable Transport, Integrated Transport Strategy, Shared Mobility, and/or related issues.
- Local mobility providers.
Objectives: - Raise awareness of car sharing as an alternative to private car ownership, reinforcing its potential as a sustainable transport mode.
- Celebrate the car-free day in the City of Port Phillip, Australia (Melbourne LGA - local government area).
- Share global information about car sharing, focusing on Australian (Melbourne LGAs) and Latin American contexts.
- Demonstrate how car sharing works, showing vehicle options and explaining how to register, book and use a shared vehicle.
- Contribute to the local community and encourage them to have more sustainable urban mobility behaviours.
Expected Outcomes: Local citizens, participants of the festival, professionals, researchers and students attended the action. They were interested in the topic, contributed to a vibrant discussion, and participated in the interactive demonstration after the workshop. Most of them did not know what car sharing was or how it works, so the action was a good opportunity for them to learn about this transport option.
“We didn't know that car sharing existed and found it very interesting. It's a new and practical way to use the car when we really need.” Barbara Ferrarini and Tiago Vidal, architects and local residents.
“The event was very helpful in illustrating the extent and function of car sharing in Melbourne. Previously I had been aware of the service but never knew enough to act on it - I ended up signing up to one of the services after the event”, Gordon Young, ethicist and lecturer at RMIT University.
“The event was very instructive, and it made me more aware of the many car sharing options found throughout Melbourne city. The presentation reinforced my opinion of not owning a private car, and also made me interested in using a car share vehicle when I need one”, Luisa Oliveira, local resident and student.
