Detailed description (English): For the European Mobility Week 2018, in cooperation with the Municipality of Varese (Lombardy, Italy), and FIAB Varese Ciclocittà, the University of Insubria organizes this workshop to investigate potential solutions to enhance the sustainable commuting in the province of Varese and the neighbouring Canton Ticino (Switzerland). The use of private bikes and bike-sharing services is specifically taken into consideration, discussed and fostered among students and workers in their daily school-home and work-home run to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion but also to improve the quality of life and health and work productivity. Positive economic effects for local companies in terms of brand identity are explored during the workshop as well, with attention to the corporate social responsibility to enhance the marketing strategy of small and medium-sized enterprises. According to the benefits of multimodality expressed by the concept of Mix & Move (the 2018 theme), the use and combination of bikes and other means of transport, such as train and urban bus, should be therefore included in employee benefit plans. With the final aim to develop a network of companies implementing forms of sustainable commuting in the modern mobility management actions, current and on-going best practices and bike-to-work experiences are then presented to favour the debate among guest private and public bodies and the local community of workers and managers.
