Detailed description (English): IN THE EUROPEAN WEEK OF SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY WE GO TO SCHOOL BY BICYCLE TO ASK THE MAYOR CANDIDATES FOR MORE SCHOOL ROADS AND CYCLE-PEDESTRIAN ROUTES IN SAFETY IN OUR CITIES
During the European week of sustainable mobility, many girls, boys and teenagers will participate in the Bike to school from 16 to 24 September in Turin, Rome, Milan, Genoa, Bologna, Naples, Olbia thanks to associations that promote the use of bicycles and environmentalists.
At the start of the new school year, our cities unfortunately found themselves once again with school mobility plans completely unprepared to solve the covid emergency and the air quality problems of our cities. We expressly ask that future mayors undertake to support the activation of even more streets / school areas (as provided for within the Simplifications Decree), than those currently being tested.
Once again with the Bike to school we want to remind parents, teachers and administrations of the importance of active mobility for children and teenagers, freeing the areas in front of the school entrances from motor traffic, both to ensure safety and to contribute to better quality. of the air.
And in particular, we ask local administrations as soon as possible:
- to set up school zones in front of each school
- to plan and secure, also through a more widespread use of cycle lanes, home-school itineraries to promote cycling / micro-mobility
- to push towards the adoption of school mobility managers as already provided for by law 221 of 28 December 2015
- to equip all schools with racks and allow internal parking
Detailed description (original language): NELLA SETTIMANA EUROPEA DELLA MOBILITÀ SOSTENIBILE ANDIAMO A SCUOLA IN BICICLETTA PER CHIEDERE AI CANDIDATI SINDACI PIÙ STRADE SCOLASTICHE E PERCORSI CICLO-PEDONALI IN SICUREZZA NELLE NOSTRE CITTÀ
Target group(s): parents and children of schools / activists
Objectives: - promote the autonomy of children: the levels of autonomy in the daily movements of Italian children between 6 and 11 years are among the lowest internationally, negatively affecting the development of their orientation and socialization skills and the building of trust in their own capacity.
- encourage active modes of travel such as cycling or walking,
- encourage free play and socialization
- promote children's health: in front of schools during children's entry and exit times, pollution levels are particularly high due to the high presence of cars: nitrogen dioxide (mainly produced by diesel engines), fine dust, and other pollutants, produced by exhaust gases but also by the friction of the wheels on the asphalt have a negative impact on the respiratory system of children
- reduce accident rates: crowds of cars that often stop in double lines in front of schools are often the cause of accidents involving children.
