Detailed description (English): GOING FOR ZERO TRAFFIC VICTIMS: a large number of activities, including
* Businesses will visit schools and organise blind spot lessons
* Cyclists are invited to have there bikes checked at their work places
* Courses on cycling safety and safe use of e-bikes and mobility scooters
* Close cooperation with a large number of ambassadors: Industry leaders, sports organisations, youth organisations and municipalities
* Organisations find their inspiration in the ROAD SAFETY MENU, that gives a list of tips and courses on sustainable traffic behaviour.
The Province of Zuid-Holland is an ambassador for road safety, which includes:
* Road management : all projects focus on road safety. In cooperation with administrators, residents/road users and thanks to the enforcement of the province, investigations are made on the possibilities to make the N228 safer.
* As an employer, the province offers very good facilities for cyclists: good parking facilities, charging facilities for e-bikes, showers and changing rooms, a bicycle mechanic on a regular basis in the office, a scheme that makes buying a bicycle for home-work commute fiscally attractive
SYMPOSIUM: ROAD SAFETY, WHAT'S WORTH TO YOU?
* Monday 9 September
* Run-up to the theme of the EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK
* Target groups: enterpreneurs, local authorities, sports clubs, officers, schools, civic organisations, the police, etc.
* Workshops on campaigns with parents and children, commercial road traffic, commuters, sports clubs and active and experienced cyclists by age group.
* Appeal to participants to get active of ROAD SAFETY, SAFE WALKING AND CYCLING in the European Mobility Week using the examples shared at the symposium.
* Presentation of successes of 2019, for example the programme:
KEEP ON PEDALING, for elderly people
* Lessons on traffic rules, insight into physical barriers of elderly people, muscle and balance exercises and fall training by physiotherapists, advice by a bicycle repair man on suitable bicycles for the elderly and practising how to bicycle safely in a group
* After the lessons the participants made a joint bike tour in which conviviality was an important element
* Cooperation between physiotherapists, welfare work and the municipality
* Attention to social aspects
SCHOOL DROP-OFF WEEK
* To encourage parents of schoolchildren in primary schools to ensure that their kids go to school on foot or by bike, for a week.
* All municipalities have been asked to cooperate. This has resulted in a number of extra campaigns. For example municipalities will close off streets nearby schools for car traffic
* In cooperation with the Fietsersbond (Cyclists Union) and Veilig Verkeer Nederland (national organisation for road and traffic safety)
* Competition: Pimp your bike (for the most beautifully decorated bike)
* Competition: Which school in Zuid-Holland has the highest percentage of parents who promise to cycle to school?
