Detailed description (English): Under this year's annual motto "Be flexible - Mix and Move!" with this small event the Senior Citizens' Council wants to give the go-ahead for a sustainable approach to mobility in our city.
We have invited some local protagonists to contribute: Vestische Straßenbahnen and Bürgerbus (public transport), Verkehrswacht (non-profit association working for traffic safety), ADFC Vest Recklinghausen (German Bicycle Club), medical supply stores (mobility-maintaining walking aids: rollator, e-scooter), a local bicycle and pedelec dealer and others.
In addition, a city tour with the mayor, local politicians, city administration employees and interested citizens is planned in order to jointly analyze the development of local accessibility in the center of the city.
The local press has promised to draw attention to the event on 19 September 2018 and will report afterwards.
Target group(s): Older people with and without mobility problems
Bicycle and pedelec users
Rollator and e-scooter users
Pedestrians with and without pulling or pushing an object (e.g. a stroller).
Objectives: We want to show (elderly) people how to stay mobile on foot, by bike or by public transport, even if they rely on a rollator or e-scooter.
We want to make local politics and administration more aware of how to make roads and paths always barrier-free and maintain them.
We want to get the local population to deal with mobility issues sustainably and to adapt their behavior to the findings.
Expected Outcomes: The city society, politics and administration are taking note of the activities of the Senior Citizens' Council and the partners regarding the addressed mobility issues.
A public discussion is initiated and ultimately leads to changed framework conditions and individual behavioral changes.
The European Mobility Week will be extended in the coming years to a variety of activities with more participants in our city.
